LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Dutchess County Regional Chamber
of Commerce upon the occasion of hosting its annual Think Pink for
Breast Cancer Awareness event, on October 1, 2013

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce upon the occasion of
hosting its annual Think Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness event, on
Tuesday, October 1, 2013, at River Station Restaurant Seafood & Steak
Restaurant and Catering, Poughkeepsie, New York; and
WHEREAS, The Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce, formerly
known as the Poughkeepsie Area Chamber of Commerce, was created on
November 20, 1907, to support area businesses in an effort to grow the
local economy; the organization began with 312 charter members; and
WHEREAS, In addition to working on behalf of its members, the Dutchess
County Regional Chamber of Commerce has always been actively engaged
with its community, taking action in support of important issues; and
WHEREAS, It is in this spirit of engagement that the Dutchess County
Regional Chamber of Commerce has, for many years, been the proud host of
its annual Think Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness event; and
WHEREAS, October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month; and
WHEREAS, Breast cancer is a substantial public health problem in the
United States and, as many recent studies point out, in New York State
particularly; and
WHEREAS, Although mortality rates have fallen as knowledge about the
disease has increased, the number of breast cancer cases diagnosed each
year still continues to rise; and
WHEREAS, Several recent reports have found that breast cancer is the
most common cancer occurring among women in New York State, with over
14,800 new cases diagnosed and an estimated 2,800 deaths per year; and
WHEREAS, Programs such as the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of
Commerce Think Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness event play an important
role in combating the disease through providing education, resources,
and funds towards finding a cure; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when associ-
ations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce upon the occa-
sion of hosting its annual Think Pink for Breast Cancer Awareness event;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce.
