LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION mourning the death of Joseph G. Reid, distin-
guished citizen and devoted member of his community

WHEREAS, It is with great sorrow and deep regret that this Legislative
Body records the passing of Joseph G. Reid, on Monday, June 17, 2013, at
the age of 88, noting the significance of his purposeful life and accom-
plishments; and
WHEREAS, A World War II veteran, Joseph G. Reid served his country as
a member of the United States Army with the 17th Airborne Division; he
served in the Battle of the Bulge, and was the recipient of the Bronze
Star and two Purple Hearts; and
WHEREAS, Joseph G. Reid distinguished himself in his profession and by
his sincere dedication and substantial contribution to the welfare of
his community; and
WHEREAS, He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Union
Carpenters for 36 years, and was a past president of The Blackthorn Club
and the Bishop Timon Fathers Club; and
WHEREAS, Joseph G. Reid was a man of values and commitment whose warm
smile and true compassion were generously given for the benefit of his
community as well as the quality of life in it; he received the Father
of the Year Award from the Holy Name Society of St. Thomas Aquinas, and
was a Goin' South Irishman of the Year honoree; and
WHEREAS, Predeceased by his wife, Mary Catherine Conrad Reid, and nine
siblings, Joseph G. Reid is survived by eight children, Kathryn (George)
Gould, Michael (Louise) Reid, Raymond (Mary) Reid, Jack (Tracie) Reid,
Patrick Reid, Mary Jo (Ed) Hardesty, Suzanne Reid, and Timothy (Caryn)
Reid; 20 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law,
Dolores Reid, Freida Reid and Monica Conrad; and many nieces and neph-
ews; and
WHEREAS, Armed with a humanistic spirit and imbued with a sense of
compassion, Joseph G. Reid leaves behind a legacy which will long endure
the passage of time and will remain as a comforting memory to all he
served and befriended; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
celebrate the life and contributions of Joseph G. Reid, and to offer its
sincere condolences to his family; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the family of Joseph G. Reid.
