LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring John Lynch upon the occasion of his
retirement as founding executive director of Suffolk County United
Veterans after many years of distinguished service

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, It is, furthermore, the sense of this Legislative Body that
members of the Armed Services from the State of New York, who have
served so valiantly and honorably in wars in which this country's free-
dom was at stake, as well as in the preservation of peace in peacetime,
merit special recognition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concerns, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John
Lynch upon the occasion of his retirement after many years of distin-
guished service to Suffolk County United Veterans; his illustrious
tenure was celebrated by political officials, Suffolk County United
Veterans alumni, staff, current residents, and many friends, with a
joyous event at the AmVets Hall in East Islip, New York; and
WHEREAS, For more than 25 years, John Lynch rendered faithful, consci-
entious and valuable service on behalf of Long Island's homeless veter-
ans, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of all those whose
lives he touched; and
WHEREAS, A resident of Wantagh, New York, John Lynch was born in
Ireland, one of three children; when he was 18 years old, his family
moved to New York City where he began working at Irving Trust Company on
Wall Street; and
WHEREAS, In 1964, John Lynch entered the United States Army, serving
with honor in Vietnam; upon his return he became a small business owner,
operating a construction and heavy equipment company which expanded
through the years; and
WHEREAS, John Lynch's pro-bono work with various veterans groups,
including The Vets Place in Babylon, New York, led him to establish
Suffolk County United Veterans in the late 1980s to assist homeless
veterans in their time of need; and
WHEREAS, To memorialize the dedication of John Lynch to Long Island's
veterans, Suffolk County United Veterans' main housing unit will be
named in his honor; and
WHEREAS, In his capacity as executive director, John Lynch served with
loyalty, honor and distinction; he was governed by a keen sense of duty,
and always demonstrated a unique grasp of human problems in his official
acts; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Ester; they are the
proud parents of two children, Karina and John, and the adoring grand-
parents of five grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Retirement will not be the end of John Lynch's work on issues
of import to veterans; his future endeavors include a project to build a
memorial in Ireland for all Irish born veterans that lost their lives in
Vietnam; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John Lynch upon the occasion of his retirement as founding execu-

tive director of Suffolk County United Veterans after many years of
distinguished service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Lynch.
