LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Sydney O'Hara upon the occasion of
being named the Gatorade New York State Softball Player of the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize our young
individuals, who strive for athletic and academic excellence through
rigorous training and mental and physical discipline; and
WHEREAS, Athletic training and competition enhances the moral and
physical development of young people in the State of New York, and
prepares them for a productive future by instilling in them the value of
hard work, healthy living and sportsmanship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Sydney O'Hara upon the occasion of being named the Gatorade New
York State Softball Player of the Year; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Michelle O'Hara, Sydney O'Hara, a Cicero-
North Syracuse senior, was selected as the 2013 Gatorade New York Soft-
ball Player of the Year; the all-state pitcher has led the Northstars
(23-1) to a No. 1 ranking in the state Class AA poll; she is 17-0 on the
mound with an ERA of 0.18 and has played Varsity for Cicero-North Syra-
cuse since she was in the eighth grade; and
WHEREAS, Sydney O'Hara has 258 strikeouts in 114.2 innings of work; at
the plate, she is hitting .515 with seven home runs and 36 RBI in 66
at-bats; and
WHEREAS, Sydney O'Hara, who has signed to play softball at Syracuse
University, is the reigning All-Central New York player of the year and
a first-team, all-state selection; Gatorade documented that she has
maintained a B-plus average in the classroom; she also has volunteered
locally on behalf of the Special Olympics and youth softball camps; and
WHEREAS, Sydney O'Hara has been given this award for her impact and
versatility on the softball field, and for her outstanding leadership,
sportsmanship, athletic excellence, academic achievement, and exemplary
character; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Sydney O'Hara upon the occasion of being named the Gatorade
New York State Softball Player of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sydney O'Hara.
