LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Margaret Tremper upon the occasion of
her retirement as Town Clerk for Shawangunk after 38 years of distin-
guished service

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Margaret Tremper has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Margaret Trem-
per upon the occasion of her retirement as Town Clerk for Shawangunk
after 38 years of distinguished service to be celebrated Wednesday,
November 13, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Born in Brooklyn, New York, Margaret Tremper has lived in
Shawangunk since 1932 when she moved with her family to Walker Valley at
the age of six; she attended a one room school house in Walker Valley,
and graduated from Pine Bush High School in 1944; and
WHEREAS, In October of 1968, Margaret Tremper was appointed Deputy
Town Clerk before taking on the job of Town Clerk on July 1, 1975;
during the 38 years at her post, Margaret has served under nine differ-
ent town supervisors and when she leaves office, will have served 19
consecutive terms; and
WHEREAS, As Town Clerk, Margaret Tremper is the official record-keeper
of the town of Shawangunk; she works in several different capacities,
some of which include handling birth and death certificates, dog licens-
ing, and the acceptance of Planning Board and Zoning Board fees; and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, Margaret Tremper is a member of
the VFW Pine Bush Memorial Post, Walker Valley Catholic Society, Paul
Bettinger American Legion Post, and the Pine Bush Library District
Board; and
WHEREAS, Margaret Tremper credits the community, past and present town
employees, and the Town Board, who in 2010 named the new Town Hall in
her honor, for their support throughout the years; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her three children, and nine
grandchildren, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and in the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and career to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Margaret Tremper upon the occasion of her retirement as Town Clerk
for Shawangunk after 38 years of distinguished service; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Margaret Tremper.
