LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Mr. and Mrs. T. Urling Walker upon
the occasion of celebrating their 65th Wedding Anniversary
WHEREAS, T. Urling and Mabel Walker were united in marriage on September
25, 1948, at the First Methodist Church in Clarion, Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Walker moved to Watertown, New York in 1951, and
have resided in the north country for 62 years; and
WHEREAS, T. Urling Walker was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and
served in the Pacific Theatre as part of the United States Army Air
Corps as a chief mechanic on B24, four-engine bombers; and
WHEREAS, After the war, T. Urling Walker attended Washington and
Jefferson College in Pennsylvania, and Case Institute of Technology in
Cleveland, Ohio, earning a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering
in 1951; and
WHEREAS, T. Urling Walker began working for New York Air Brake Company
in July of 1951, eventually serving as executive engineer for the compa-
ny for 10 years; and
WHEREAS, T. Urling Walker was also a member of the Jefferson Community
College's engineering faculty from 1963 to 1971, served as a JCC trustee
from 1982 to 1991, and was one of the founding members of the JCC Foun-
dation, serving two years as chairman of its board of directors; and
WHEREAS, T. Urling Walker also served as mayor of Watertown from 1983
to 1991, and for a short time as interim city manager; and
WHEREAS, Mabel Walker graduated from high school in Clarion, Pennsyl-
vania, and graduated from the nursing school of Allegheny Hospital in
Pittsburgh in 1948; and
WHEREAS, Mabel Walker was one of the first graduates of the Empire
State College Division in Watertown, receiving her bachelor of arts
degree in 1979; and
WHEREAS, Mabel Walker remained active in the health care field
throughout her life, helping to start Hospice in Jefferson County, and
volunteering as a nurse to friends in need; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Walker have been members of the Presbyterian
Church for nearly 60 years; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Walker are the proud parents of Laurie Pike of
Watertown, New York, and Dr. Thomas U. Walker, Jr. of Baltimore, Mary-
land, as well as two deceased daughters; they are also the loving grand-
parents of five grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Walker are and always have been a tower of
strength, support, understanding and limitless love for their family;
and
WHEREAS, Their love, devotion, caring, sensitivity and responsiveness
to their family, friends and all who know them are their hallmark and
tradition; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Walker have always demonstrated their compassion
and generosity by lending a hand to neighbors facing tough times; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. Walker have lived and continue to live their
lives with great dignity and genuine grace, always demonstrating a deep
and continuing concern for human values and ideals, and in so doing,
they have inspired others to do the same; and
WHEREAS, This meaningful occasion is the result of the love, hard work
and spirit that this couple has invested in their marriage; and
WHEREAS, They have passed these same values to their loved ones,
producing a family that is close-knit and supportive of its individual
members, public-minded in its relations to the community and committed
to the ideals of citizenship upon which this Nation was founded; and
WHEREAS, Mr. and Mrs. T. Urling Walker have touched the lives of their
family and many friends through the shining example of their marriage,
which is a testament to the devotion and admiration which they possess
for one another; and
WHEREAS, The longevity of this enduring marriage truly marks a mile-
stone in life's journey, an event of personal triumph and joy; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an occa-
sion of such importance is brought to our attention, the same should be
memorialized by us for the edification and emulation of others; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Mr. and Mrs. T. Urling Walker upon the occasion of cele-
brating their 65th Wedding Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Mr. and Mrs. T. Urling Walker.
