LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Funlayo Easter Wood upon the occasion of
her designation for special recognition by the Board of the Orisa Commu-
nity Development Corporation

WHEREAS, From time to time this Legislative Body takes note of certain
extraordinary individuals it wishes to recognize for their valued
contributions to the success and progress of society and publicly
acknowledge their endeavors which have enhanced the basic humanity among
us all; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Funlayo Easter Wood upon the occasion of her designation for special
recognition by the Board of the Orisa Community Development Corporation
on Saturday, December 7, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Funlayo Easter Wood, a doctoral student in African and Afri-
can American Studies at Harvard University, a founding director of the
African and Diasporic Religious Studies Association, creator of Orisa-
Focal Meditation and the blog Ase Ire, priest of Obatala and board
director of the Orisa Community Development Corporation is being honored
by her community on December 7, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Funlayo Easter Wood has been selected by the Board of the
Orisa Community Development Corporation and members of the Orisa Commu-
nity to receive the Sango Gunmi Ose of Leadership, which also formally
designates her as an Orisa Community Chief in Waiting; and
WHEREAS, Funlayo Easter Wood is truly deserving of praise and commen-
dation for making personal sacrifices, and demonstrating exceptional
leadership, determination and spirit of service to Orisa and the Orisa
Community; and
WHEREAS, A true asset to society, Funlayo Easter Wood's leadership and
service has been most evident as she is an outstanding leader within the
Orisa Community Development Corporation (CDC); in addition, she has led
three Empowerment Retreats and humanitarian missions to Yorubaland,
Nigeria, developed social media and IT infrastructure for the Orisa CDC,
structured and established the Orisa CDC's membership platform and has
unwaveringly helped lead the Orisa CDC for four years; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Funlayo Easter Wood upon the occasion of her designation for
special recognition by the Board of the Orisa Community Development
Corporation; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Funlayo Easter Wood.
