LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Cherry Road School upon the occa-
sion of being named a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those educational institutions of true purpose and high achieve-
ment that clearly demonstrate an enduring pursuit of excellence in the
education of our youth in the Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to hereby
recognize and congratulate Cherry Road School upon the occasion of being
named a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence; and
WHEREAS, Cherry Road School, located at 201 Cherry Road in Syracuse,
New York, within the Westhill Central School District, houses grades 2-4
with about 400 students, and has a rich history of academic excellence
dating back to the mid 1920s when the school was first constructed; and
WHEREAS, Designation as a Blue Ribbon School by the United States
Department of Education is indicative of high level educational stand-
ards set in the pursuit of excellence; and
WHEREAS, Cherry Road School has achieved high standards set in place
by local, state and national educational institutions, as well as having
displayed the qualities of excellence necessary to prepare students for
the challenges of the 21st Century; and
WHEREAS, National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence status is awarded
to schools that have demonstrated strong leadership, a clear sense of
mission that is shared by all connected with the school, and a dedicated
and enthusiastic teaching staff; Cherry Road School also offers a chal-
lenging and engaging curriculum, policies and practices that ensure a
safe environment that is conducive to learning, strong parental involve-
ment, and evidence that the school helps all students reach their full-
est potential; and
WHEREAS, Cherry Road School has continually demonstrated a high level
of dedication, devotion, and enthusiasm for the quality of educational
programs and opportunities offered to the faculty and students, as well
as the community; and
WHEREAS, The National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence Award stands as
a resolute testimony to Cherry Road School's educational success, its
strong value system, and its dedication from administrators, teachers,
parents and students; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
recognize and commend Cherry Road School upon the occasion of its desig-
nation as a 2013 National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence by the United
States Department of Education; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Casey Barduhn, Westhill School District Superintendent, and
Maureen Mulderig, Cherry Road School Principal.
