LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Daugh-
ters of the Nile Foundation

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize those
charitable organizations within our community that help to enhance the
medical care and treatment of children through philanthropic endeavors;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, it is the intent of this Legislative Body to
commend the Daughters of the Nile Foundation, as it marks its 100th
Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate its proud history, the Daughters of the Nile
Foundation hosted a Centennial Masquerade Ball held at the Doubletree
Hotel and proclaimed October 5, 2013, as the Charity for the Children
Day; and
WHEREAS, The Daughters of the Nile Foundation was founded in 1913 by
female members who were related by birth or marriage to a Shriner or
Master Mason, with the mission of securing monetary support for the
Shriners Hospitals for Children; and
WHEREAS, The Daughters of the Nile Foundation began with 22 original
members; since its inception, membership has continued to grow reaching
a current mark of 39,000 members throughout the United States of America
and Canada; and
WHEREAS, For the past 100 years, the Daughters of the Nile Foundation
has worked tirelessly to promote the general improvement of medical care
and treatment of children through a permanent endowment fund benefiting
Shriners Hospitals for Children; and
WHEREAS, Members of the Daughters of the Nile Foundation have commit-
ted countless hours to sewing garments and quilts, donating toys, games
and books to children, and by raising a significant amount annually to
support the Shriners Hospital for Children; and
WHEREAS, The Daughters of the Nile Foundation has assisted children,
up to 18 years of age, for admission to a Shriners Hospital for Children
to receive medical treatment regardless of the child's ability to pay;
and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of the Daughters of the Nile Founda-
tion; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Melissa Damon, of the Ilderim Temple Number 15 and Co-Chair
of the Centennial Masquerade Ball.
