LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Herricks High School senior Sachit
Singal upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the Congres-
sional Award Gold Medal

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the great Empire State who have
made strong contributions to their communities and who serve as role
models for their peers; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Herricks High School senior Sachit Singal upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the Congressional Award Gold Medal; he
received this prestigious award on June 18, 2013, at a ceremony on Capi-
tol Hill, in Washington, DC; and
WHEREAS, The Congressional Award is the United States Congress' award
for young Americans; to earn this award, students must set and accom-
plish goals in four program areas: voluntary public service, personal
development, physical fitness, and expedition/exploration; and
WHEREAS, Sachit Singal volunteered for hundreds of hours at North
Shore-LIJ Hospital, organizing and performing at charitable music
concerts, and raising funds for a facility in India that provides free
boarding and lodging to more than 150 mentally and physically challenged
children and adults; and
WHEREAS, For the personal development component of the award, Sachit
Singal combined his passion for music and languages; he experimented
with different genres of music while perfecting his skills as a viola
player and a vocalist; and
WHEREAS, Sachit Singal accomplished the physical fitness portion of
the award by studying foil fencing; to round out his ambitious program
and complete the expedition/exploration component, this determined young
man chose to travel to India, where he studied the architectural influ-
ence of the Mughal Empire; and
WHEREAS, With his impressive ability to set and meet challenging goals
and a high standard of accomplishment, Sachit Singal represents the best
development of the potential which is inherent in our most precious
resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, Sachit Singal, in receiving this distinguished honor, may
take just pride in the inspiration and contribution to the spirit of
excellence he brings to his family, friends, community and Herricks High
School; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Herricks High School senior Sachit Singal upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of the Congressional Award Gold Medal; and
to convey its best wishes for a future of purposeful success and well-
being; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Sachit Singal.
