LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 110th Anniversary of the
Lowville Free Library

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across the great State
of New York is reflective of certain exemplary institutions whose
purpose is dedicated to serving the community and the needs of its citi-
zenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 110th Anniversary of the Lowville Free Library, to be cele-
brated with a Wine Tasting and Dessert Night on Monday, September 16,
2013; and
WHEREAS, Founded in 1903, The Lowville Free Library was located in a
small room on the first floor of the Town Hall Theater Building and held
less than 100 books; and
WHEREAS, During this lime, the library was heated by a stove and the
first Librarian, Miss Anna E. Crawford, donated her time; and
WHEREAS, Within five to six years the library began to expand and
relocated to larger rooms on the second floor of the Merrell block; and
WHEREAS, The current home of the Lowville Free Library is located on
Dayan Street in Lowville, New York, and was completed in 1927; it was
donated by Mrs. C.J. Reeder and Mrs. Harry Gould in memory of their
father, Mr. R.J. Richardson; and
WHEREAS, Sally Ingersoll Brown has given more than 30 years of distin-
guished service to the Lowville Free Library, and continues to serve as
the Librarian today; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when an insti-
tution of such noble aims and accomplishments is brought to our atten-
tion, it should be recognized and applauded by all the citizens of this
great Empire State; now; therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in it deliberations to
commemorate the 110th Anniversary of the Lowville Free Library; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Lowville Free Library.
