LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Joslyn Thomas upon the occasion of her
selection as a member of the 2013 National Association for Music Educa-
tion All-National Honor Choir

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize the dedi-
cation and commitment of our young people who distinguish themselves
through excellence in musical competition; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Joslyn Thomas upon the occasion of her selection as a member of the 2013
National Association for Music Education All-National Honor Choir; and
WHEREAS, This talented vocalist joined more than 670 of the most
skilled high school musicians in the nation to perform at a gala concert
on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, in Nashville, Tennessee; and
WHEREAS, Joslyn Thomas, a senior at Herricks High School in New Hyde
Park, New York, was one of only 74 students from the great State of New
York to be chosen for this honor; and
WHEREAS, This hard working artist demonstrates an impressive dedi-
cation to pursuing excellence in her musical endeavors; she is a member
of her high school's Chamber Choir, Women's Choir and Herricks 16, an
ensemble member of the Herricks Fall Musical, "Kiss Me Kate," and an
active member of the Tri-M Music Honor Society; in addition, she has
been part of the MYO Youth chorale for the past three years, and Nassau
Suffolk Vocal for two years; and
WHEREAS, Joslyn Thomas is no stranger to competition; in her junior
year she participated in the New York State Music Association's All
County, All Eastern, and All State Festivals; and
WHEREAS, Music competition provides an opportunity for students to
exhibit their practical skills to an audience, thereby giving them a
sense of pride in their hard work and efforts; and
WHEREAS, Joslyn Thomas exemplifies the best of the potential inherent
in our most precious resource, our youth; she has brought enduring honor
to her family and community through her many achievements; now, there-
fore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Joslyn Thomas upon the occasion of her selection as a member of
the 2013 National Association for Music Education All-National Honor
Choir; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Joslyn Thomas.
