LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Garden City High School senior Brianne
Griffith upon the occasion of winning the 2013-2014 News 12 Long Island
Scholar Athlete Award

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in honoring talented high
school athletes who distinguish themselves and their community through
outstanding athletic and scholastic performance; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Garden City High School senior Brianne Griffith upon the occasion of
winning the 2013-2014 News 12 Long Island Scholar Athlete Award; and
WHEREAS, The News 12 Long Island Scholar Athlete Award program recog-
nizes outstanding ability shown by high school seniors in athletics,
scholarship, leadership, and service to others; nominees must partic-
ipate in at least two sports or a multi-season sport, and their nomi-
nations must be supported by their coach or athletic directors; and
WHEREAS, Brianne Griffith is an exceptional student athlete who excels
both in the classroom and on the field; and
WHEREAS, A multi-talented young woman, Brianne Griffith is a member of
the 2011 and 2012 state championship lacrosse team and the Long Island
2011 and 2012 championship field hockey team; and
WHEREAS, Committed to academics, Brianne Griffith is an advanced
placement scholar with honors; a member of both the National Honor Soci-
ety and the National Spanish Honor Society, she has an unweighted grade
point average of 95.7; and
WHEREAS, Brianne Griffith served as the Girls Athletic Association
grade representative in 2011, 2012, and 2013; she is a recipient of the
2013 American Legion Auxiliary Award, and was a 2013 Girls State candi-
date; and
WHEREAS, She hopes to pursue an undergraduate degree at one of the
nation's top universities; and
WHEREAS, Excellence and success in competitive sports can be achieved
only through strenuous practice; Brianne Griffith's dedication to
academics, athletics, and her peers is a year-round, every day commit-
ment; and
WHEREAS, Brianne Griffith's exceptional athleticism and scholastic
achievements are a testament to her dedication, determination and
personal commitment; her achievements stand as a hallmark of what is
best in the families, schools and communities of New York State; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Garden City High School senior Brianne Griffith upon the occa-
sion of winning the 2013-2014 News 12 Long Island Scholar Athlete Award;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Brianne Griffith.
