LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring First New York Federal Credit Union upon
the occasion of being named the Robert Ludwig Community Contributor by
the Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation, Inc.

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
esteemed entities that have distinguished themselves in their community;
and
WHEREAS, First New York Federal Credit Union will be recognized as the
Robert Ludwig Community Contributor by the Schenectady City School
District Educational Foundation, Inc. during its annual Education Cele-
bration to be held at the Stockade Inn on January 16, 2014; and
WHEREAS, First New York has worked with the Schenectady City School
District for 77 years, first as Schenectady Teachers Federal Credit
Union, assisting District teachers with various financial services; and
WHEREAS, Over the years, the credit union began serving teachers from
nearby districts as well, and changed its name to First Teachers Federal
Credit Union and later, to First New York Federal Credit Union; and
WHEREAS, First New York opened its first high school branch in Sche-
nectady High School in the Spring of 2005; it is known as the Patriot
Branch; and
WHEREAS, The Patriot Branch provides students real-life opportunities
to run their own credit union and to develop skills for the 21st Centu-
ry; and
WHEREAS, Students are fully trained as tellers, and work together to
develop a business plan that will increase financial responsibility
among their peers and increase membership for the credit union; and
WHEREAS, In addition, First New York is present in the elementary and
middle schools through its KID$ (Keep Investing Dollars Savings)
program, which teaches students what saving money means, and how and why
they need to save money; and
WHEREAS, First New York also offers financial literacy lessons and
workshops for students, faculty, and staff in all Schenectady schools;
and
WHEREAS, First New York has exhibited the true spirit of the presti-
gious Robert Ludwig Community Contributor Award through its tireless
dedication and valuable contributions to financial literacy and educa-
tion at the Schenectady City School District; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor First New York Federal Credit Union upon the occasion of being
named the Robert Ludwig Community Contributor by the Schenectady City
School District Educational Foundation, Inc.; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to First New York Federal Credit Union.
