LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Schenectady County Community College
for special honor by the Schenectady City School District Educational
Foundation, Inc. in recognition of its distinguished service to the
school

WHEREAS, The State of New York takes great pride in acknowledging its
esteemed entities which have distinguished themselves in their communi-
ty; and
WHEREAS, Schenectady County Community College (SCCC) will be recog-
nized by the Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation,
Inc. for its distinguished service to the school during its annual
Education Celebration to be held at the Stockade Inn on January 16,
2014; and
WHEREAS, SCCC is being recognized for its Early College High School
Partnership (Smart Scholars) program, which provides at-risk students
with college readiness skills; and
WHEREAS, Smart Scholars is designed for students from low-income fami-
lies who largely represent the first generation in their family to
attend college; and
WHEREAS, Participating students may earn more than 20 tuition-free
college credits; and
WHEREAS, The then-ninth-graders who were the first to participate in
the Freshman Success Seminar, will be the program's first graduating
class in June of 2014; and
WHEREAS, There are currently over 420 students at all four grade
levels at Schenectady High School participating in this program; and
WHEREAS, Schenectady High School is most appreciative of the staff and
faculty, and administration of SCCC, who strive to make every Smart
Scholar student feel like a true college student; and
WHEREAS, Through the efforts of the SCCC staff, Smart Scholars has
been recognized as an exemplary early college program and has been
designated as a demonstration site for other interested districts; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberation to
commend Schenectady County Community College for special honor by the
Schenectady City School District Educational Foundation, Inc. in recog-
nition of its distinguished service to the school; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Schenectady County Community College.
