LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring William Smith College Field Hockey Coach
Sally Scatton upon the occasion of earning her 400th career win

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to commend notable athletic coaches who
serve the young adults of this great Empire State and who have distin-
guished themselves and their schools through outstanding commitment and
exemplary athletic achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
William Smith College Field Hockey Coach Sally Scatton upon the occasion
of earning her 400th career win; and
WHEREAS, Becoming one of only 14 coaches in the history of collegiate
field hockey to do so, Heron field hockey head coach Sally Scatton
notched her 400th career victory on Saturday, September 21, 2013, as her
team dominated visiting Lebanon Valley College 5-0 in the finale of the
2013 William Smith Classic; and
WHEREAS, Under the guidance of Coach Sally Scatton, William Smith has
reached the NCAA Regional Final 14 times in 25 seasons and has captured
three NCAA Division III National Championships (1992, 1997, 2000) and
one ECAC Mid-Atlantic Championship (1999) in 22 postseason appearances;
on 22 occasions the Herons won at least 12 games under her watchful eye
and have never suffered a losing season; and
WHEREAS, Sally Scatton earned her first coaching win at Wells College
with a 2-0 victory over St. Bonaventure on September 11, 1983; her
Express team went 3-11-1 in her lone season as that program's head
coach; however, she joined William Smith in 1988 and has a 397-121-3
record in Geneva; and
WHEREAS, Coach Sally Scatton also serves as an Assistant Director of
Athletics at William Smith College; she coordinates the annual William
Smith Athletics Banquet, Heron community service projects, and other
special events; in addition, she is the game day manager for lacrosse
and oversees the department's student employees; and
WHEREAS, Coach Sally Scatton's positive demeanor, selfless commitment,
and caring concern have contributed to her enduring success as a coach
and mentor, earning her the just respect and admiration of her communi-
ty, her peers, and the athletes she has so ably coached; now, therefore,
be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor William Smith College Field Hockey Coach Sally Scatton upon the
occasion of earning her 400th career win; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to William Smith College Field Hockey Coach Sally Scatton.
