LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Victor E. Salerno upon the occasion of
his designation for special recognition by St. John Fisher College, on
September 24, 2013
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those individuals within the Empire State who have made
strong contributions to their communities and who inspire others through
their model citizenship; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Victor E. Salerno upon the occasion of his designation for special
recognition by St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York; and
WHEREAS, On Tuesday, September 24, 2013, St. John Fisher College will
dedicate its newest building, the Victor E. Salerno Center for American
Enterprise, to honor the generosity and commitment to excellence exem-
plified by Victor E. Salerno; and
WHEREAS, Victor E. Salerno is the Chief Executive Officer of O'Connell
Electric Company, Inc., one of the largest electrical and communications
contractors in the United States; and
WHEREAS, A proud alumnus of St. John Fisher College, Victor Salerno
graduated from this esteemed institution in 1966 with a Bachelor of
Business Administration degree in accounting; and
WHEREAS, Victor E. Salerno's passion and talent for business enter-
prise have led to a productive and successful career, first with a pred-
ecessor firm of Deloitte & Touche, LLP, and then, in 1971, to O'Connell
Electric where he worked as Controller until becoming CEO in 2006; under
his inspired leadership, the company's growth has been exponential; and
WHEREAS, Victor E. Salerno is renowned for his ability to foster
trusting partnerships with customers and building strong relationships
with employees; his exemplary reputation as a man of honor and integrity
is evidenced by his having been chosen as recipient of the 2012 Beta
Gamma Sigma Business Achievement Award, which is presented to business
leaders of accomplishment and demonstrated generosity, who model ethical
leadership; and
WHEREAS, The Victor E. Salerno Center for American Enterprise is a
tribute to the exceptional leadership, vision, and character of its
benefactor; the building will create a hub for business education on the
St. John Fisher College campus, where students will learn the best prac-
tices of the business world in a real-time and real-world environment;
and
WHEREAS, Victor E. Salerno also serves his alma mater as Chairman of
the Board of Trustees; he is past president of the College Alumni Board;
and
WHEREAS, Victor E. Salerno has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always
given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Among, his many civic and professional activities, he is a
Board member and past Chairman of the Board of the Rochester Museum and
Science Center, serves on the Executive Board and is Treasurer of the
Rochester Builders Exchange, is a member of the Board of Community Tech-
nology Assessment Board (CTAAB), and is currently a trustee of the
Pension Fund and Insurance Fund of the International Brotherhood of
Electrical Workers Local Union 86; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife of 46 years, Eileen,
and their two children, as well as their three grandchildren, all of
whom feel privileged to be a part of his life and rejoice in his
achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Victor E. Salerno has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Victor E. Salerno upon the occasion of his designation for
special recognition by St. John Fisher College; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Victor E. Salerno.
