LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gananda Central School District Girls
Varsity Volleyball Coach Joan DiRisio upon the occasion of achieving her
400th coaching victory

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, to commend notable educators and athletic
coaches who serve the youth of this great Empire State and who have
distinguished themselves and their schools through outstanding commit-
ment and exemplary athletic achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Gananda Central School District Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach Joan
DiRisio upon the occasion of achieving her 400th coaching victory; and
WHEREAS, Coach Joan DiRisio reached this impressive career milestone
on Wednesday, October 30, 2013, when her team, the Gananda Blue
Panthers, won in the Section V Semifinals; and
WHEREAS, Joan DiRisio has been coaching girls varsity volleyball at
Gananda High School for 31 years; during her luminous tenure, her teams
have earned eight Wayne County Championships, eight Sectional V Champi-
onships, and a New York State Volleyball Championship in 1997; and
WHEREAS, Joan DiRisio's outstanding coaching has been recognized by
her peers; she was designated Section V Class C Coach of the Year in
2013, selected as Wayne County Coach of the Year in 2001 and 2009, and
was a Gananda Athletics Hall of Fame Inductee in 2010; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Geraldine and the late Lewis DiRisio, Joan
DiRisio graduated from Fairport High School in 1970, and received a
Bachelor of Science degree from the State University of New York College
at Brockport in 1974; in 2012 she retired as a Physical Education teach-
er after 30 years of service to the Gananda Central School District in
that capacity; and
WHEREAS, Joan DiRisio's positive demeanor, selfless commitment, and
caring concern have contributed to her enduring success as a coach and
mentor, earning her the just respect and admiration of her community,
her peers, and the athletes she has so ably coached; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gananda Central School District Girls Varsity Volleyball Coach
Joan DiRisio upon the occasion of achieving her 400th career coaching
victory; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Coach Joan DiRisio.
