LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Patricia Locurcio upon the occasion of
her designation as 2013 Person of the Year by the MALVERNE/WEST HEMP-
STEAD HERALD on December 26, 2013
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Locurcio has given not only of her time and energies
but also of her competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Patricia
Locurcio upon the occasion of her designation as 2013 Person of the Year
by the MALVERNE/WEST HEMPSTEAD HERALD on December 26, 2013; and
WHEREAS, West Hempstead, New York, native Patricia Locurcio works
tirelessly for the betterment of her entire community; she spearheads
several local community groups, volunteers across West Hempstead and
beyond and is a businesswoman, all while living with multiple sclerosis
and working from a wheelchair; and
WHEREAS, In 2001 Patricia Locurcio retired on disability after 17
years as a legal secretary; determined not to slow down, this dynamic
woman chose to devote her energies to helping others; and
WHEREAS, She is a longtime member of the West Hempstead Community
Support Association, for which she regularly helps to organize the annu-
al Memorial Day parade and hosts the children's holiday party at Hall's
Pond Park, even braving the bitter cold to help young kids decorate
holiday cookies; since 2006, she has worked as historian for the West
Hempstead Chamber of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, In an effort to support other disabled people, Patricia
Locurcio serves as director of communications for the nonprofit organ-
ization Home Free Home, a group of architects who volunteer to design
and build accessible homes for senior citizens and people with disabili-
ties across the nation; she also founded the Long Island Breakfast Club,
a local advocacy group that provides counseling and resume-writing
services for emerging professionals; and
WHEREAS, Patricia Locurcio is also an Avon representative; she was
recently named West Hempstead's Small Businessperson of the Year by the
Nassau Council Chambers of Commerce; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of her community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Patricia Locurcio has stood constant
in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With her throughout have been her husband, Paul, and their
children, Gina, Nicholas, and Paul, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Patricia Locurcio has displayed
throughout her life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Patricia Locurcio upon the occasion of her designation as 2013
Person of the Year by the MALVERNE/WEST HEMPSTEAD HERALD; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Patricia Locurcio.
