LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring the West Genesee Central School District
Marching Band upon the occasion of winning the National Class of the
2013 New York State Field Band Conference
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and
commend those dedicated and distinguished teams that are committed to
the pursuit of excellence, bringing great pride to the citizens of New
York State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor the
West Genesee Central School District Marching Band upon the occasion of
capturing First Place in the National Class at the 2013 New York State
Field Band Conference Championship; and
WHEREAS, The West Genesee Central School District Marching Band trav-
eled to the Carrier Dome in Syracuse, New York, on Sunday October 27,
2013, looking to capture the school's 33rd overall and third straight
State championship; and
WHEREAS, When it was time to perform, each and every member of the
West Genesee Central School District Marching Band had in mind the goal
of representing themselves, their school and their community by perform-
ing with the highest standard of excellence; and
WHEREAS, This year, the West Genesee Central School District Marching
Band knew it would face stiff competition from other schools in the
National Class looking to win the Governor's Cup, such as, Norwalk,
Victor, Arlington, Brentwood, Liverpool, Orchard Park and Baldwinsville;
and
WHEREAS, The theme for West Genesee Central School District Marching
Band's performance this year was titled, "Flash Saves the Universe!" in
which the marching band members paid homage to the genre of superheroes
and performed four musical selections; and
WHEREAS, The West Genesee Central School District Marching Band
completed a performance that was both visually and musically appealing
to the crowd and judges; and
WHEREAS, The 2013 New York State Field Band Conference Championship
featured a highly competitive group of schools; in order to win, West
Genesee had to deliver a nearly flawless performance to the group of
judges; and
WHEREAS, After all eight schools in the National Class finished their
performances and the judges had tallied their scores, West Genesee came
out victorious with a point total of 96.25, beating Norwalk and Victor
for first place in the competition; and
WHEREAS, By winning first place, the West Genesee Central School
District Marching Band captured the 2013 National Class title; winning
the school's 33rd overall and third straight State championship, assert-
ing themselves as a dominant force in marching band competitions; and
WHEREAS, No marching band can succeed without outstanding talent
throughout its entire roster; such was the case for the 2013 West Gene-
see Central School District Marching Band whose members include: Luke

WHEREAS, The extremely high level of musical talent, hard work and
team-centered mentality displayed by the 170 members of the 2013 West
Genesee Marching Band is due in part to the dedication and guidance of
Band Director Michael Stachnik and the 17 total staff members; and
WHEREAS, It should be further noted that excellence in field band is
possible only through vigorous practice and discipline, habits that will
guide these young musicians to a lifetime of success in the musical
field or other career fields; and
WHEREAS, It is known that dedicated and distinguished teams, such as
the West Genesee Central School District Marching Band, cannot achieve
the highest standards of success without the support of those who devote
countless hours of their time to the marching band; now, therefore, be

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor the members of the West Genesee Central School District Marching
Band, who positively represent their school, who are role models to
their classmates, who exemplify the marching band's goal of continued
excellence, and who have brought great pride to their community; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be
presented to Michael Stachnik, Director of the West Genesee Central
School District Marching Band, and Dr. Christopher Brown, School
District Superintendent.
