LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Friends of Douglass Greene Park
upon the occasion of hosting its inaugural awards dinner
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
the Friends of Douglass Greene Park upon the occasion of hosting its
inaugural awards dinner on Saturday, October 5, 2013; and
WHEREAS, In addition, this fine event will also be the Friends of
Douglass Greene Park's Gowanus Gatsby benefit ceremony; it will also
include celebrity hosts, a buffet dinner with open bar, an awards recep-
tion with live entertainment, dance instruction, a dance party with live
DJs, aerial performers, slide shows of Brooklyn in the 1920s and of
Douglass Greene Park and its surroundings; and
WHEREAS, There will also be costume and dance competitions, and other
activities reminiscent of the 1920s; Brooklyn Boulders and Homage Brook-
lyn will have climbing and skateboarding demo areas on ground floor; the
benefit will celebrate the completion of Phase I of the park's reno-
vation on its Third Avenue side and highlight the ongoing development of
this vital and multifaceted public park located on a full city block
between 3rd Avenue and Nevins Street, and Douglass and DeGraw Streets in
Gowanus; and
WHEREAS, Douglass Greene Park is used by hundreds of families living
in Gowanus, Boerum Hill, Carroll Gardens, and Cobble Hill; the Friends
of Douglass Greene Park, a 501(c)(3) organization, works with community
and business partners to enhance the quality of life in the area through
programming and special activities for all ages, and creates much needed
green space; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Friends of Douglass Greene Park upon the occasion of hosting
its inaugural awards dinner; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Friends of Douglass Greene Park.
