LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending S. Elizabeth A. Hill, C.S.J., J.D.
upon the occasion of her retirement as President of St. Joseph's College
after 17 years of distinguished service

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, The future success of our State and Nation is dependent upon
individuals such as S. Elizabeth A. Hill, who dedicate their lives as
educators, nurturing our most precious resource, our youth; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend S. Elizabeth
A. Hill, C.S.J., J.D. upon the occasion of her retirement as President
of St. Joseph's College after 17 years of distinguished service to be
celebrated at the 31st Annual Scholarship Gala, on Friday, November 8,
2013 at The Crest Hollow Country Club in Woodbury, New York; and
WHEREAS, One of the region's most influential women, S. Elizabeth A.
Hill, has been President of St. Joseph's College since 1997; and
WHEREAS, A native of Brooklyn, New York, S. Elizabeth A. Hill is a
Magna Cum Laude of St. Josephs College; she received a Master's degree
in History from Columbia University, and studied Theology and Scripture
in Rome under the auspices of Georgian University; and
WHEREAS, In addition, S. Elizabeth A. Hill received a J.D. from St.
John's University School of Law. where she was a Thomas More Scholarship
student, as well as President of the Criminal Law Institute; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of S. Elizabeth A. Hill, St.
Joseph's College's enrollment and range of academic offerings have
continuously increased, while tuition has remained consistently among
the lowest in the New York Metropolitan Area; she has also overseen the
expansion of two campuses; and
WHEREAS, S. Elizabeth A. Hill has been the recipient of numerous
awards and accolades, some of which include being named a Woman Sustain-
ing the American Spirit, as well as a Woman of Distinction; she is a
three-time recipient of LONG ISLAND BUSINESS NEWS' Top 50 Women Award,
making her a Hall of Fame Honoree; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, S. Elizabeth A. Hill was awarded a Doctor of
Humane Letters, honoris causa, from St. Francis College for her numerous
charitable works and contributions as a leader in higher education; and
most notably, she was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award in the
field of Higher Education by The Advancement for Commerce, Industry and
Technology; and
WHEREAS, Active within her community, S. Elizabeth A. Hill is on the
steering committee of the Long Island Regional Advisory Council on High-
er Education, and sits on the board of ERASE Racism; she is on the Board
of Directors of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce, and is a member of the
Board of Trustees of The Mary Louis Academy, as well as the Board of
Advisors for Saint Saviour High School; and
WHEREAS, The quality and character of life in this Nation, and in the
great State of New York, is reflective of the purposeful lives and good
works of those civic-minded community members who dedicate their lives
and career to the service of others; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend S. Elizabeth A. Hill, C.S.J., J.D. upon the occasion of her

retirement as President of St. Joseph's College after 17 years of
distinguished service; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to S. Elizabeth A. Hill, C.S.J., J.D.
