LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Anthony Iovino upon the occasion of his
designation as 2013 Person of the Year by the OCEANSIDE/ISLAND PARK
HERALD, on December 26, 2013
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Iovino has given not only of his time and energies
but also of his competence, intelligence and leadership and consequently
has been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to honor Anthony Iovino
upon the occasion of his designation as 2013 Person of the Year by the
OCEANSIDE/ISLAND PARK HERALD, on December 26, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Iovino demonstrates his abiding dedication to the
Oceanside, New York, community in innumerable ways, especially in his
creation and stewardship of the Oceanside Summer Gazebo Reading Program;
and
WHEREAS, The Oceanside Summer Gazebo Reading Program is a weekly
literary event in which more than 100 Oceanside residents and others
gather to hear some of Long Island's most prestigious poets, authors and
comedians, as well as community members, share their favorite litera-
ture; and
WHEREAS, A published novelist, essayist, poet, and lover of litera-
ture, Anthony Iovino originally conceived the Oceanside Summer Gazebo
Reading Program as a fundraising opportunity for the local Kiwanis
organization; it has evolved into a community favorite, drawing diverse
attendees and participants from throughout Nassau County; and
WHEREAS, A Long Island native, Anthony Iovino is a graduate of the
University of Richmond and St. John's University School of Law; he is
the lead litigation partner at Bondi Iovino & Fusco in Garden City, New
York; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Iovino has been called upon to contribute his time
and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors in Oceanside and
has always given of himself unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, For several years he was president of Kiwanis, and he served
as a member of the school board from 1994 to 1997; he is currently the
Oceanside Library's special projects coordinator where he has developed
an email list and set up the library's Facebook page, opening up the
library to new users; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Iovino's commitment to Oceanside is all the more
impressive given that he lives in the Rockville Centre zip code and
works in Garden City; and
WHEREAS, Anthony Iovino's exemplary community service and work in the
literary community has earned him numerous accolades; he was named Long
Islander of the Week by NEWSDAY in May 2011, Citizen of the Year by the
Oceanside Chamber of Commerce in 2008, and Kiwanian of the Year in 2007;
in addition, he was presented the Long Island Writers Guild's Community
Service Award in 2010, the Town of Hempstead's Make a Difference Award
in 2008, and was honored by United New Yorkers for Choice in Education
in 2006; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Anthony Iovino has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout have been his wife, Angela, and their two
daughters, Amanda and Alison, all of whom feel privileged to be a part
of his life and rejoice in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Anthony Iovino has displayed
throughout his life; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Anthony Iovino upon the occasion of his designation as 2013 Person
of the Year by the OCEANSIDE/ISLAND PARK HERALD; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Anthony Iovino.
