LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Jefferson Rehabilitation Center
upon the occasion of celebrating its 60th Anniversary

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Jefferson Rehabilitation Center, JRC, which serves hundreds of
people with developmental disabilities in the Jefferson County area
every year, upon the occasion of celebrating its 60th Anniversary; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion will be observed with a gala event
in Watertown, New York, during the summer of 2014; and
WHEREAS, JRC began operating in 1954, in the basement of the First
Methodist Church in Watertown, to provide educational opportunities to
children with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, JRC has spent the last six decades growing into the agency it
is today, providing vocational, residential, day programs, preschool,
early intervention and day care programs to over 900 individuals, with
over 600 staff members; and
WHEREAS, JRC today is an independent, not-for-profit corporation which
enhances the quality of life of individuals and their families through
its wide ranging services; and
WHEREAS, JRC's goal is to maximize the potential of persons with disa-
bilities and provide needed assistance to their family members, and it
consistently achieves these goals through education, training and advo-
cacy in community based settings; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor organiza-
tions which give positive definition to the profile and disposition of
the communities of the State of New York and profoundly strengthen our
society with their commitment; and
WHEREAS, It is most fitting that we take time to celebrate the
achievements and dedication of JRC, and to express our appreciation for
all JRC has done for the Jefferson County community; now, therefore, be
it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Jefferson Rehabilitation Center upon the occasion of cele-
brating its 60th Anniversary; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jefferson Rehabilitation Center.
