LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring George Gertz upon the occasion of his
retirement after six years of distinguished public service to the Town
of Marilla

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who are devoted to the welfare of their community and its citizen-
ry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
George Gertz upon the occasion of his retirement after six years of
distinguished public service to the Town of Marilla; and
WHEREAS, Beginning as Councilman, George Gertz officially retired from
the esteemed position of Supervisor on Tuesday, December 31, 2013; he
continues to serve as an active member of the Manilla Fire Company; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, George Gertz was instrumental in the
remodeling of the Community Center and Marilla Town Hall; in addition,
the town received a HUD grant to raze a burnt building across from the
Town Hall, turning the area into a beautiful landscape and sitting area
with benches donated by local clubs; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the pavilion honoring war veterans has been
cleaned and rebuilt, and the Historical Society will relocate to a new
and spacious home on West Avenue; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of George Gertz, the finaliza-
tion of a Farmland Protection Plan was approved on December 18, 2013;
this will act as a guide to control the growth of subdivisions and
develop land, while keeping agriculture a major industry in town; and
WHEREAS, For the past six years, George Gertz rendered faithful,
conscientious and valuable service to the Town of Marilla, earning the
admiration, esteem and affection of his colleagues; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the occurrence of such a compassionate blend-
ing of strength, leadership, intellect, and commitment as that demon-
strated by George Gertz over a lifetime of sacrifice and dedication to
others; and
WHEREAS, With him throughout has been his wife, Sharon who feels priv-
ileged to be a part of his life and rejoices in his achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the quality of life in their community and have shown a long and
sustained commitment to the maintenance of high standards in their
profession, certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all
the citizens of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor George Gertz upon the occasion of his retirement after six years
of distinguished public service to the Town of Manilla; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to George Gertz.
