LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Tom and Dell-Ann Benson upon the occa-
sion of their designation as 2014 Pro Deo et Schola Recipients by Long
Island Lutheran Schools, on January 31, 2014

WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, Tom and Dell-Ann Benson have given not only of their time and
energies but also of their competence, intelligence and leadership and
consequently have been designated for special honor; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body is justly proud to commend Tom and
Dell-Ann Benson upon the occasion of their designation as 2014 Pro Deo
et Schola Recipients by Long Island Lutheran Schools; the couple will be
honored at the Forward Together Campaign Dinner, on Friday, January 31,
2014, at The Tam O' Shanter Club in Brookville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Tom and Dell-Ann Benson are longstanding members of Good
Shepherd Lutheran Church in Plainview, New York, and the proud parents
of two recent Long Island Lutheran High School graduates, Michael and
Miranda; and
WHEREAS, Tom Benson is currently an independent director and audit
committee chairman for Key Brand Entertainment, Inc.; he spent the first
ten years of his career as an auditor at Ernst & Young and subsequently
co-founded and served as the chief financial officer of several publicly
traded media and entertainment companies; and
WHEREAS, Dell-Ann Benson is an active and committed volunteer, who has
served as the Assistant Treasurer at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church for
over 20 years and is currently a member of the congregation council;
prior to taking time off to devote her time fully to her family, she
worked at several companies including AIG and Avis; and
WHEREAS, Tom and Dell-Ann Benson have been called upon to contribute
their time and talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and
have always given of themselves unstintingly; and
WHEREAS, Tom Benson currently serves as the President of the Long
Island Lutheran Middle and High School Board of Directors, as well as
Treasurer of the Long Island Lutheran Day School Board of Directors; he
also serves on the board of The Wartburg Adult Care Community partic-
ipates on various committees at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, and
volunteers as an Assistant Scoutmaster with Boy Scout Troop 12 in Hunt-
ington; and
WHEREAS, Dell-Ann Benson has also served Good Shepherd Lutheran Church
as a Long Island Lutheran Middle and High School delegate, lector,
assisting minister, youth leader, chair of the school board, and Sunday
school teacher; in 2013, she co-chaired Bid-for-Kids Auction for the
fifth time, and has volunteered as the finance co-chair for the auction
for the past eight years; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of their community service, a
period of constructive involvement, Tom and Dell-Ann Benson have stood
constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Tom and Dell-Ann Benson have displayed
throughout their lives; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Tom and Dell-Ann Benson upon the occasion of their designation
as 2014 Pro Deo et Schola Recipients by Long Island Lutheran Schools;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom and Dell-Ann Benson.
