LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring St. Francis High School graduates Tom
Telesco and Dave Caldwell for their distinguished service to the
National Football League
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to publicly recognize
those extraordinary individuals from the State of New York who have made
contributions to the success and progress of society in the course of
their life's work; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor St.
Francis High School graduates Tom Telesco and Dave Caldwell for their
distinguished service to the National Football League; and
WHEREAS, Class of 1992 graduate Dave Caldwell and Class of 1991 gradu-
ate Tom Telesco, were recently introduced as the general managers for
the NFL franchises of the Jacksonville Jaguars and San Diego Chargers,
respectively; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from St. Francis High School, Tom Telesco
attended John Carroll University in Ohio, where he played wide receiver
for the football team and was a starter for the Ohio Athletic Conference
championship team in 1994; he graduated in 1995 with a bachelor's degree
in business management; and
WHEREAS, Tom Telesco began his journey as an intern with the Buffalo
Bills from 1991-1994, and later joined the Indianapolis Colts organiza-
tion in 1998 where from 1998-2000, he served as an area scout; his
career continued serving in a variety of capacities, including pro scout
(2001-2003), director of pro scouting (2005), director of player person-
nel (2006-2011) and vice president of football operations (2012); and
WHEREAS, Tom Telesco's tenure with the Colts was one of the most
successful eras in the franchise's history, including 12 postseason
appearances, eight division titles, two Super Bowl appearances, one
resulting in a win in 2006, and 154 wins; he was also involved in the
drafting of Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck, two of the NFL's biggest
stars; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from St. Francis High School, Dave Caldwell
attended John Carroll University in Ohio, where he was a two-year
letterman as outside linebacker from 1992-1996; he graduated in 1996
with a bachelor's degree in finance/business administration; and
WHEREAS, Dave Caldwell began his career in 1996 as a scouting assist-
ant with the Carolina Panthers and later joined the Indianapolis Colts
in 1998 as an area scout; he served as an area scout from 1998-2007 and
then became director of college scouting for the Atlanta Falcons from
2008-2011; in 2012, he was promoted to director of player personnel for
the Falcons; and
WHEREAS, Dave Caldwell helped to build the roster that contributed to
the Colts Super Bowl victory in 2006 which consisted of multiple pro
bowl players; his success in Atlanta included four postseason appear-
ances and the only NFC team to post five consecutive winning seasons;
and
WHEREAS, Both Dave Caldwell and Tom Telesco attribute their success to
their St. Francis football coaches Jerry Smith and John Scibetta and
also the Polian family; and
WHEREAS, Dave Caldwell, his wife Joelle, and his son David Michael II,
are excited for their move to Jacksonville and his next step in the NFL;
Tom Telesco brings with him his wife Larah, and his three children
Elena, Thomas and Nicholas to begin his new career in San Diego; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor St. Francis High School graduates Tom Telesco and Dave Caldwell
for their distinguished service to the National Football League; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Tom Telesco and Dave Caldwell.
