LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending the Sullivan County Music Educators'
Association upon the occasion of its 60th Annual All-County Music
Festival, to be held on March 1, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that music contributes
significantly to the cultural enrichment and quality of life in the
State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Events that foster community spirit and cooperation merit the
recognition of this Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, Music has evolved to be an important part of the education of
the young people of New York State; and
WHEREAS, The young people of Sullivan County, State of New York, have
demonstrated exceptional talent in musical pursuits; and
WHEREAS, The Sullivan County music educators have come together to
form the Sullivan County Music Educators' Association in an effort to
improve and expand the many talents of the young people of Sullivan
County; and
WHEREAS, The Sullivan County Music Educators' Association has banded
together the Central school districts of Eldred, Fallsburg, Liberty,
Livingston Manor, Monticello, Roscoe, Sullivan West and Tri-Valley; and
WHEREAS, The students from these schools have come together and dili-
gently practice in the areas of Elementary Chorus, Middle School Band,
String Orchestra, Junior High Band, High School Jazz Ensemble, Senior
High Women's Chorus, and Senior High Mixed Chorus; and
WHEREAS, The culmination of their efforts will be held at the Sullivan
County Music Educators' Association's 60th Annual All-County Music
Festival on March 1, 2014, in the David B. Panebaker Auditorium at the
Liberty High School; and
WHEREAS, This festival is illustrative of the commitment of the admin-
istrators of all eight Sullivan County School Districts to providing a
full and comprehensive music program in their districts; and
WHEREAS, Gary E. Siegel, Festival Chairperson; Michael Mingo, Presi-
dent of the Sullivan County Music Educators' Association; the music
educators of all eight Sullivan County schools; and all those who will
perform on March 1, 2014, and their parents are to be commended for
their efforts in planning, preparing for and presenting a musical
program which will bring pleasure to all those in attendance; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend the Sullivan County Music Educators' Association upon the occa-
sion of its 60th Annual All-County Music Festival, to be held on March
1, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That copies of this Resolution suitably engrossed, be trans-
mitted to Lawrence Thomas, Sullivan County BOCES Superintendent of
Schools; Daniel Parkhurst, President of the Liberty Central School
District Board of Education; Dr. William Silver, Liberty Central School
District Superintendent of Schools; Jack Strassman, Liberty Middle/High
School Principal; Gary Siegel, Sullivan County Music Educators' Associ-
ation All-County Music Festival Chairperson and NYSSMA/SCMEA
GRC/Advocacy Committee Representative; and Michael Mingo, President of
the Sullivan County Music Educators' Association.
