LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION memorializing Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to
proclaim March 29, 2014, as Knights of Columbus Day in the State of New
York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those fraternal organizations of high purpose and worthy
accomplishment whose endeavors have faithfully served the welfare of the
citizens of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to memorial-
ize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 29, 2014, as Knights of
Columbus Day in the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Founded on March 29, 1882, in New Haven, Connecticut, the
Knights of Columbus is the world's largest lay Catholic family service
organization; in New York State alone, there are 96,264 members; and
WHEREAS, The Knights of Columbus' four ideals include: Charity, Unity,
Fraternity and Patriotism, and exemplifies these principles by its
involvement in direct donations to other charities, churches and those
in need; and
WHEREAS, Although not restricted to any particular cause, the Knights
of Columbus has, over the years, given much of its time and energies to
persons with mental retardation; at the local, state and international
levels, Special Olympics has been a major recipient of funding, service
and support from this exceptional organization; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, the Knights of Columbus gives generously to
those suffering from the effects of both war and natural disasters; it
has been instrumental in promoting the causes of just peace, consistent
with Christian ideals and true patriotism, principles upon which the
Order has always adhered; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, the Knights of
Columbus has demonstrated the value of fostering camaraderie in a shared
vision of community service; this mission is indicative of a noble
organization which epitomizes the heart and soul of what it means to be
an American; and
WHEREAS, Organizations of singular distinction such as the Knights of
Columbus, provide a model for enhancing the quality of life in the
community and, as such, merits the grateful praise of the State of New
York; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when organiza-
tions of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
memorialize Governor Andrew M. Cuomo to proclaim March 29, 2014, as
Knights of Columbus Day in the State of New York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to The Honorable Andrew M. Cuomo, Governor of the State of New
York.
