LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Interboro
Insurance Company

WHEREAS, Organizations which serve the economic well-being and interests
of the people of this great Empire State merit the commendation of this
Legislative Body; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that
the quality and character of life in the communities across New York
State are enhanced by the concerned and dedicated efforts of business
organizations and individuals that generously contribute to the welfare
of the community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Interboro Insurance Company; and
WHEREAS, The Interboro Insurance Company was organized in 1914 by
Peter Doelger, Jr. under the name of the Brewers Mutual Indemnity Insur-
ance Company; it had its origin, however, in 1884 when the Brewers Mutu-
al Indemnity Fund was organized to pool the liabilities arising out of
the delivery operations of its members; and
WHEREAS, The Prohibition Amendment of 1919 curtailed the activities of
the brewers who founded the company, and counseled the change in the
company's name to The Interboro Mutual Indemnity Insurance Company; it
also impelled the company to extend its services to industries other
than brewing, and to the growing number of private passenger car owners;
and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, when the Prohibition Amendment was repealed in
1933, Interboro was able to reinstate coverage of the brewing operations
in which it had originally specialized; and
WHEREAS, The Interboro Mutual Indemnity Insurance Company progressed
substantially during the Depression years; its economical operating
methods and efficient loss prevention activities combined to make the
company successful; and
WHEREAS, After demutualizing in February of 2007, the company is now
known as Interboro Insurance Company and is located in Mineola, New
York; and
WHEREAS, In 2012, the Company acquired OneBeacon's AutoOne personal
auto insurance business, as well as Maidstone Insurance Company in 2013,
expanding its repertoire of policyholders; and
WHEREAS, With 107 employees from the local community, Interboro Insur-
ance Company continues to flourish while remaining true to their motto
of being "the company you can trust...since 1914"; and
WHEREAS, This auspicious occasion presents a unique opportunity for
this Legislative Body to recognize and pay tribute to Interboro Insur-
ance Company; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when business
organizations of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our
attention, they should be recognized by all the citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Interboro Insurance Company; and be
it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Interboro Insurance Company.
