LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Father Timothy R. Scully, C.S.C. upon
the occasion of his designation for special recognition by The Cathedral
Club of Brooklyn on February 6, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those distinguished citizens who devote their time and ener-
gies to the service of their community and profession, participating in
civic affairs and enhancing the character and quality of life for all
citizens; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Father Timothy R. Scully, C.S.C. upon the occasion of his designation
for special recognition by The Cathedral Club of Brooklyn; this auspi-
cious occasion will be celebrated at the Club's 114th Anniversary
Dinner, to be held on Thursday, February 6, 2014, at the New York
Marriott Marquis, New York, New York; and
WHEREAS, Ordained a Holy Cross priest in 1981, Father Timothy R. Scul-
ly is a professor of Political Science at the University of Notre Dame,
a Fellow and Trustee of the University of Notre Dame, and a Fellow of
the Helen Kellogg Institute for International Studies; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Father Timothy R. Scully currently serves as
Hackett Family Director of the Institute for Educational Initiatives
where he oversees the work of the Alliance for Catholic Education, the
Center for Research on Educational Opportunity, and other education-
based programs; he is also a member of the Foundation Board at Trinity
College, Dublin; and
WHEREAS, Father Timothy R. Scully founded the Alliance for Catholic
Education (ACE) in 1993, Notre Dame's signature program which provides
hundreds of talented and committed Catholic school teachers and leaders
every year to scores of underserved communities throughout the United
States and overseas; and
WHEREAS, Furthermore, since its beginnings, ACE has grown to include a
wide array of resources and services to underserved faith-based schools
throughout the United States, becoming the Nation's premier provider of
talent and energy to strengthen and sustain these schools; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Father Timothy R.
Scully has stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Father Timothy R. Scully has
displayed throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their profession and community,
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence, certainly
have earned the recognition and applause of all citizens of this great
Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Father Timothy R. Scully, C.S.C. upon the occasion of his desig-
nation for special recognition by The Cathedral Club of Brooklyn on
February 6, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Father Timothy R. Scully, C.S.C.
