LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gertrude A. Smith upon the occasion of
her retirement after many years of distinguished public service to the
Town of Westerlo

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge the
significant milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed resi-
dents of this noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Gertrude A. Smith upon the occasion of her retirement after many years
of distinguished public service to the Town of Westerlo; and
WHEREAS, Gertrude A. Smith, affectionately known as Trudy, has
rendered faithful, conscientious and valuable service to the Town of
Westerlo, earning the admiration, esteem and affection of her
colleagues; and
WHEREAS, One of seven children, Trudy Smith was born in Durham, New
York, in 1939; she graduated from Greenville High School, then went on
to attend the State University at Albany; and
WHEREAS, Trudy Smith was elected as Town Clerk in 1985; she joined the
New York State Town Clerks Association, as well as the Albany and Sche-
nectady Town Clerks Association, in which she held several offices; and
WHEREAS, In 2011, after 26 years of dedicated service to the Town of
Westerlo, Trudy Smith stepped down from the esteemed position of Town
Clerk, and began working part-time as Deputy Town Clerk; and
WHEREAS, Trudy Smith served the Town of Westerlo with loyalty, honor
and distinction, and was governed by a keen sense of duty and always
showed a unique grasp of human problems in her official acts; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, the late Carl Smith, Sr., with
her throughout has been her son, Carl, Jr., who feels privileged to be a
part of her life and rejoices in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
the great State of New York; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Gertrude A. Smith upon the occasion of her retirement after many
years of distinguished service to the Town of Westerlo; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gertrude A. Smith.
