LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 80th Anniversary of Costanzo's
Bakery of Buffalo, New York

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those busi-
nesses and individuals that are devoted to the welfare of the community
and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is also the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize
and commend those who work to better their local community and work hard
to keep a local tradition alive; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 80th Anniversary of Costanzo's Bakery of Buffalo, New York;
and
WHEREAS, In 1933, an ambitious Angelo Costanzo, Sr. opened a small
bakery along side the Niagara River known as Costanzo's Bread; he deliv-
ered Italian breads to mom and pop grocery stores, making "Costanzo's
Bread" a trusted brand throughout Buffalo; in the 1970s, he realized the
potential growth of pizza and sub shops and changed the direction of the
company by supplying food service establishments in the Buffalo area;
and
WHEREAS, Due to the name recognition and the quality products,
Costanzo's was widely accepted and became the desired bread for most of
the sub shops in Buffalo; in 1977, Angelo Jr. and his brother took over
and moved into a new location; and
WHEREAS, As the business grew, the natural progression was to expand
into the national marketplace by developing a line of frozen, fully
baked sub and round rolls; Costanzo's has now launched several new
products, including the brioche rolls, artisan-style sandwich rolls,
rustic-style sub rolls, wheat rolls and spicy Buffalo rolls; and
WHEREAS, Currently, Costanzo's products are now delivered fresh up to
five days a week to businesses such as Tops, Wegmans, Noco Express,
Dash's, Omega Deli and Price Rite locations, along with dozens of local
delis, convenience stores and specialty markets throughout the region;
now under the helm of third generation Costanzos, the company is focused
on driving growth across the country; and
WHEREAS, Costanzo's has recently established a national sales team and
a corporate chef to work directly with multi-unit retail and food
service accounts nationwide; it has also partnered with a Canadian food
distributor to represent the brand throughout Ontario and Quebec and
opened its first chain restaurant account in Ontario and is actively
soliciting major supermarket chains there; and
WHEREAS, Costanzo's is also pursuing a British Retail Consortium
certification, which is the highest level of quality and food safety
certification in the food industry; and
WHEREAS, As the Costanzo family celebrates the bakery's 80th anniver-
sary, it looks to the future by introducing new products and continuing
to service their loyal customers; in addition, it looks forward to open-
ing up additional markets in the U.S. and Canada as new customers grow
to appreciate the same Costanzo's products that Western New Yorkers have
enjoyed for 80 years; and
WHEREAS, The success of Costanzo's Bakery is possible because of the
hard work and vision that started 80 years ago by Angelo Costanzo, Sr.
and passed through the generations and onto the generations to come; the
organization continues to maintain the promise made by Angelo Sr. 80

years ago, delivering the highest quality, most consistent product to
its customers everyday and everytime; and
WHEREAS, It is the practice of this Legislative Body that those who
enhance the well-being and vitality of their community and have shown a
long and sustained commitment to excellence certainly have earned the
recognition and applause of all the citizens of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 80th Anniversary of Costanzo's Bakery of Buffalo, New
York; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Costanzo Family.
