LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Beezie Madden upon the occasion of
being named USEF Equestrian of the Year for the third time in her
career, on January 10, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to acknowledge
outstanding athletes who distinguish themselves through their excep-
tional performance, attaining unprecedented success and the highest
level of personal achievement; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Beezie Madden upon the occasion of being named USEF Equestrian of the
Year for the third time in her career; she was honored on Friday, Janu-
ary 10, 2014, at the United States Equestrian Federation's 2013 Pegasus
Awards dinner; and
WHEREAS, Elizabeth "Beezie" Madden, a show jumping competitor and dual
Olympic Team Gold medalist winner from Cazenovia, New York, previously
won the United States Equestrian Federation's top honor in 2005 and
2006; having captured the 2013 award, she is now only the second person
ever to win the Equestrian of the Year title three times; and
WHEREAS, Beezie Madden's impressive feat was the capstone of a year
filled with victories; and
WHEREAS, She began her record-setting 2013 season by winning the FTI
Consulting Winter Equestrian Festival's FEI W-Cup Grand Prix CSI3, and
finishing in second place in the CSIO4 Grand Prix during the CSIO Well-
ington; and
WHEREAS, In April 2013, Beezie Madden traveled to Gothenburg, Sweden,
to capture the Rolex/FEI World Cup Final crown for the first time; she
continued to dominate in Europe, producing two impressive double clears
in Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup competitions, and a Longines Global Cham-
pion Tours Grand Prix of Chantilly victory over the summer; and
WHEREAS, Beezie Madden then assisted the United States to a win in the
Consolation Round of the Furusiyya FEI Nations Cup Final in Barcelona,
Spain; as a testament to her 2013 success, she spent three months as the
second-ranked rider in the world on the Longines/FEI Rankings; and
WHEREAS, Beezie Madden received The William C. Steinkraus Trophy,
which is awarded to an equestrian in an Olympic discipline, for the
third time, qualifying her to be one of eight equestrians in the running
for the United States Equestrian Federation top honor; and
WHEREAS, The daughter of Kathleen McGregor/Schlesinger and Joseph
Patton, Beezie Madden was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and began riding
at the age of three; and
WHEREAS, At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Beezie Madden won the
gold medal as part of the United States team in Team jumping; at the
2008 Beijing Summer Olympics, she earned gold in the Team Jumping compe-
tition, and she also earned a bronze in the Individual Show Jumping
competition; and
WHEREAS, A gifted athlete, Beezie Madden has become a role model in
the world of equestrian sports; her character and achievements stand as
a sterling example and inspiration to all who would aspire to success;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Beezie Madden upon the occasion of being named USEF Equestrian
of the Year for the third time in her career; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Beezie Madden.
