LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Virginia Synkowski upon the occa-
sion of celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, Senior citizens bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to
the increasingly active roles they play in today's society; their past
contributions and future participation are a vital part of, and valuable
asset to, the fabric of community life and activity; and
WHEREAS, Virginia Synkowski was born on February 12, 1914, to Charles
and Mary (Kulik) Samel, in Oswego, New York; and
WHEREAS, As a small child, Virginia Synkowski and her family moved to
New York Mills, New York; she attended New York Mills High School, and
was baptized at St. Mary's, Our Lady of Czestohowa, where she is still a
member today; a lifetime member of the congregation, she is active with
the Sacred Heart/Rosary Society, and sings on the church choir; and
WHEREAS, On September 10, 1939, Virginia Synkowski married her
husband, the late Jack Synkowski, and together they raised three daugh-
ters; and
WHEREAS, This exceptional centenarian, with her zest for life, has
inspired and enhanced the lives of her family and friends; and
WHEREAS, During the 1950s and 1960s, Virginia Synkowski worked in the
office of A.D. Julliard Co., Mill No. 3; she retired from the Oneida
County Finance Department in 1985; and
WHEREAS, An avid volunteer, Virginia Synkowski is a supporter of the
Steven Swan Humane Society; she was a Candy Striper at St. Elizabeth
Hospital for many years, a Hope House volunteer, and a Trustee at St.
Mary's for a decade; and
WHEREAS, This distinguished woman has experienced the incredible joys
and sorrows characteristic of and reserved for those with the stamina
and courage to savor a full life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her joyous and sincere love for others and through the quiescent
charm and wisdom which comes only from a fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, In addition to her husband, the late Jack Synkowski, with her
throughout have been her three daughters, Mary Ann (John), Jayne and
Judith Ann, two grandchildren, Stephanie (James) and John III (Natha-
lie), and four great-grandchildren, Amanda, John IV, Nicolas and
Stefane, all of whom feel privileged to be a part of her life and
rejoice in her achievements; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize those who have reached such a remarkable age and who have witnessed
and celebrated the innovations, cultural developments and awesome
achievements of this country during the last century, while themselves
contributing to the growth and excellence of this great Empire State;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Virginia Synkowski upon the occasion of her 100th Birthday;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Virginia Synkowski.
