LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION paying tribute to the Mental Health Association
in New York State, Inc. upon the occasion of celebrating over 50 years
of advocacy for people with mental illness
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend the efforts
of those organizations which provide vital mental health services to
individuals and their families, and in doing so, enhance the health and
welfare of the entire State of New York; and
WHEREAS, It is the further sense of this Legislative Body to acknowl-
edge those organizations that are dedicated to providing services and
supports for individuals with mental illness as well as advocating on
their behalf; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to pay trib-
ute to the Mental Health Association in New York State, Inc. upon the
occasion of celebrating over 50 years of advocacy and support for people
with mental illness at its 2013 awards dinner at the Albany Marriot on
Thursday, October 24, 2013; and
WHEREAS, The Mental Health Association in New York State, Inc. and its
affiliate network work to promote mental health and recovery, encourage
empowerment in mental health service recipients, eliminate discrimi-
nation and raise public awareness through education and advocacy; and
WHEREAS, The Mental Health Association in New York State, Inc. works
with 30 local affiliates across 54 counties in New York State to ensure
available and accessible mental health services for all New Yorkers with
emphasis on improved care and treatment of institutionalized patients,
services for facilities for rehabilitation, treatment, schooling and
special care for children with emotional disturbances, as well as
preventative mental health efforts and education in the community; and
WHEREAS, This outstanding association has been involved in numerous
projects that share the common theme of educating the public regarding
mental illness and reducing the stigma of the illness, which include:
Parents with Psychiatric Disabilities Initiative, Jail Diversion Initi-
ative, Empowerment Project, Families Together, Parent Support Network,
Community Mental Health Promotion Project, and many more; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to honor those
organizations that enhance the quality of life in the State of New York
and have shown a long and sustained commitment to improving the care,
services and treatment of those with mental illness; and
WHEREAS, Organizations such as the Mental Health Association in New
York State, Inc., which bring greater awareness to mental health issues,
and assist people with mental illnesses in their quest for dignity and
independence, profoundly enhance the quality of life for all citizens;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to pay
tribute to the Mental Health Association in New York State, Inc. upon
the occasion of celebrating over 50 years of advocacy for people with
mental illness; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to the Mental Health Association in New York State, Inc.
