LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 30th Anniversary of Madison
County New York Habitat for Humanity

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 30th Anniversary of Madison County New York Habitat for Human-
ity; and
WHEREAS, Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical
Christian housing ministry founded in 1976, by Millard Fuller and his
wife, Linda; its mission is to eliminate poverty housing and homeless-
ness from the world and to make decent shelter a matter of conscience
and action; and
WHEREAS, Established in 1984, Madison County New York Habitat for
Humanity is a locally run affiliate of Habitat for Humanity Interna-
tional; and
WHEREAS, The Madison County chapter began its life as Cazenovia Area
Habitat for Humanity; they merged with the Hamilton affiliate in 2007,
to become Madison County New York Habitat for Humanity and with this
change came a commitment to a larger community base; and
WHEREAS, Madison County New York Habitat for Humanity builds and reha-
bilitates houses with the help of volunteer labor and donations of money
and materials; homes are then sold to a qualifying family with Habitat
for Humanity arranging for an interest free mortgage; and
WHEREAS, Homeowners are selected based on their level of need, their
willingness to become partners in the program and their ability to repay
the loan; neither race nor religion is a factor in choosing the families
who receive Habitat houses; and
WHEREAS, To celebrate 30 years as a Habitat affiliate, Madison County
New York Habitat for Humanity has set a goal to construct two houses in
the Village of Chittenango in 2014; and
WHEREAS, While committee building, raising funds, planning and build-
ing for habitat families, the organization will continue its Brush with
Kindness Program which provides smaller scale repair projects to homes
of families in need of assistance; and
WHEREAS, Volunteerism is an essential element of all societies; it
provides a way in which the human values of community, caring and serv-
ing can be sustained and strengthened; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that those organiza-
tions and individuals who enhance the well-being and vitality of their
community and have shown a long and sustained commitment to excellence
certainly have earned the recognition and applause of all the citizens
of this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 30th Anniversary of Madison County New York Habitat for
Humanity; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Madison County New York Habitat for Humanity.
