LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending The Parkinson's Disease Support Group
of the Mid-Hudson Valley on their 4th Annual "Walk over Water" on
Sunday, April 27, 2014

WHEREAS, On Sunday, April 27, 2014, The Parkinson's Disease Support
Group of the Mid-Hudson Valley, Inc. will host its 4th Annual "Walk over
Water" to raise funds for Parkinson's Disease research at the Hudson
Valley's scenic Walkway Over the Hudson; and
WHEREAS, The Parkinson's Disease Support Group of the Mid-Hudson
Valley owes its existence to the vision and concern of Jacqueline Efram,
a local advocate for the elderly; and
WHEREAS, The Parkinson's Disease Support Group of the Mid-Hudson
Valley founded in 1985 continues to provide education, advocacy, and
support for those affected with this devastating disease through
addressing emotional concerns, education, advocacy, and action; and
WHEREAS, Regular exercise has been shown to delay, often for a consid-
erable period of time, the onset and intensity of symptoms; and
WHEREAS, The annual "Walk over Water" event has raised a significant
amount for Parkinson's research and has brought together New Yorkers
from across the State and from different generations to support New
Yorkers in the Mid-Hudson Valley and throughout New York State who are
suffering with Parkinson's Disease; and
WHEREAS, Parkinson's Disease is a progressive neurological disorder,
which is a substantial health problem in the State of New York and
throughout the United States that affects nearly 10 million people
worldwide; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to urge all of our
citizens to support the search for a cure of Parkinson's and assist
those individuals and families who deal with this devastating disorder
on a daily basis; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend The Parkinson's Disease Support Group of the Mid-Hudson Valley
on its 4th Annual "Walk over Water" on April 27, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Nancy Redkey, Chair, The Parkinson's Disease Support Group of
the Mid-Hudson Valley.
