LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring James C. Merrick upon the occasion of
his retirement after 22 years of distinguished service to both the
Groveland Town Board and the Livingston County Board of Supervisors

WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge the significant
milestones in the distinguished careers of esteemed residents of this
noble Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
James C. Merrick on the occasion of his retirement after 22 years of
distinguished service to both the Town of Groveland and Livingston Coun-
ty Board of Supervisors; and
WHEREAS, James C. Merrick began his devoted service to the Town of
Groveland over two decades ago, and has diligently served as its Town
Supervisor for the past 15 years; he also worked as chairman of the
Livingston County Board of Supervisors for a similar amount of time; and
WHEREAS, James C. Merrick is noted for always putting the needs of his
community first and for the many notable achievements during his tenure;
and
WHEREAS, Under his superb guidance, The Town of Groveland was able to
bring multiple improvements to its sewers, roads and fire department, as
well as further grants for the construction of a salt and machinery
facility and the development of Groveland's Ambuscade Park; and
WHEREAS, As Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, James C. Merrick
diligently worked to improve the quality of life for the citizens of
Livingston County; he spearheaded the construction of building projects
for services including a new jail, nursing home and emergency medical
services, among others; and
WHEREAS, He is credited with improving the efficiency of Livingston
County government by streamlining the number of committee meetings from
13 to just three, Human Services, Public Services and Ways and Means;
all Department of Social Services programs were also reorganized to be
placed under one roof; and
WHEREAS, Sincerely loved and greatly respected by those he worked
with, James C. Merrick will be remembered for his honesty, integrity,
and keen sense of duty; and
WHEREAS, In the faithful performance of his duties and responsibil-
ities, James C. Merrick's ongoing efforts and notable achievements have
significantly contributed to bettering the quality of life for the resi-
dents of the Town of Groveland and all of Livingston County; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor James C. Merrick upon the occasion of his retirement after 22
years of distinguished service to both the Town of Groveland and Living-
ston County; and best wishes in all his future endeavors; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to James C. Merrick.
