LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Lorena Perkins upon the occasion
of celebrating her 100th Birthday
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to commemorate and
recognize certain milestones celebrated by citizens of this great Nation
and Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Lorena Perkins of Great Valley, New York, upon the occasion of
celebrating her 100th Birthday; and
WHEREAS, Lorena Perkins was born on January 29, 1914, in the Town of
Mansfield, New York; she attended grade school in Conewango Valley, New
York, with her five sisters: Viola, Nora, Cecelia, Lillian, and Eddie,
and a step-brother Marion; and
WHEREAS, After graduating from high school, Lorena met and married the
love of her life, Eugene Perkins; she then moved to the Perkins' large
dairy farm near Ellicottville, New York; and
WHEREAS, Lorena Perkins contributed immeasurably to the family farm by
working around the farmhouse, cleaning, and cooking delicious meals for
the family; and
WHEREAS, After the death of her father-in-law, the Perkins' farm was
sold, and the family moved to Lincoln Street in Salamanca, New York,
where they lived for 18 years; and
WHEREAS, Eugene Perkins worked as head sawyer at Fancher Furniture
Company, while Lorena raised their three children and spent her time
keeping up their house; she also kept house for others who needed help
and occasionally provided babysitting services for the community; and
WHEREAS, Eugene and Lorena Perkins raised three wonderful children,
Joanna, Carol, and Allen; today, she is the proud grandmother of six
grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Proficient in sewing and cooking, Lorena Perkins enjoys
spending time with her children and grandchildren; she also spends her
free time watching television and doing word books; and
WHEREAS, Lorena Perkins is known by her family, friends, and the
community as a devoted family woman who is extremely trustworthy and
committed to helping those in need; she attributes her longevity to
enjoying the simple things in life; and
WHEREAS, This beloved woman has enriched the lives of those around her
through her smile, jubilance, and through the charm and wisdom which
come only from fullness of years; and
WHEREAS, It is the intent of this Legislative Body to publicly recog-
nize and honor the lives of beloved citizens who have reached a remark-
able age and who have witnessed and celebrated the innovations, cultural
developments, and awesome achievements of this country during the last
century; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Lorena Perkins upon the occasion of celebrating her 100th
Birthday; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Lorena Perkins.
