LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Shelley and Gary Katz upon the occa-
sion of their designation for special recognition by being named Guests
of Honor at the 42nd Annual Testimonial Dinner of the Young Israel of
Plainview
WHEREAS, Individuals who give of their time and energies and serve the
best interests of their communities are an asset beyond remuneration and
cannot be sufficiently extolled; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to take note of and
publicly acknowledge individuals and organizations of remarkable integ-
rity and character who distinguish themselves in service to their faith
and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Shelley and Gary Katz upon the occasion of their designation for special
recognition by being named Guests of Honor at the 42nd Annual Testimo-
nial Dinner of the Young Israel of Plainview, to be held on March 1,
2014 at the Jericho Jewish Center; and
WHEREAS, Gary Katz, Co-Founder of the International Securities
Exchange (ISE), currently serves as its President and Chief Executive
Officer; his wife, Shelley, is a homemaker and a graduate of Stern
College for Women and Queens College; and
WHEREAS, Married in 1987, Shelley and Gary Katz have been active
members of the Young Israel of Plainview community for over 20 years;
Shelley served ably as Chair of the Sisterhood Meals Committee and is an
active fundraiser and coordinator for synagogue events; Gary has acted
as Chair of the Expansion Committee and also Co-Chair of he New Family
Initiative; and
WHEREAS, They both have given of themselves unstintingly to numerous
civic and charitable activities, including the Ronald McDonald House,
Hebrew Academy of Nassau County, and Autism Speaks; and
WHEREAS, Gary and Shelley Katz are the proud parents of four children,
Elisha, Gabrielle, Dylan and Mathew, all of whom feel privileged to be a
part of their lives and rejoice in their achievements; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by individuals
for the benefit of others which Gary and Shelley Katz have displayed
throughout their lives; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commend Shelley and Gary Katz upon the occasion of being named Guests of
Honor at the 42nd Annual Testimonial Dinner of the Young Israel of
Plainview on March 1, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gary and Shelley Katz.
