LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Firefighter John Fall, Sr. upon the
occasion of his designation for special recognition after 50 years of
dedicated service to the Solvay Volunteer Fire Department

WHEREAS, The dedicated firefighters of the State of New York are
renowned throughout the Nation; their reputation is synonymous with
excellence in the arduous field of fire protection and prevention; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer fire departments and their outstanding members are
an integral part of community protection in localities across this great
Empire State; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John
Fall, Sr. as he marks 50 years of dedicated service with the Solvay
Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, John Fall, Sr. joined the Solvay Volunteer Fire Department on
December 3, 1963, as a member of Mountain Top Hose Company, Solvay
Station No. 2; and
WHEREAS, As a 50-year member of the Solvay Volunteer Fire Department,
John Fall, Sr. has held the positions of Treasurer, Lieutenant, Captain,
2nd Deputy Chief, and 1st Deputy Fire Chief; and
WHEREAS, In 1993, John Fall, Sr. was named Chief of the Solvay Volun-
teer Fire Department; he proudly served as the Chief of the department
until 1995; and
WHEREAS, John Fall, Sr. also has served on the Board of Directors for
the Solvay Volunteer Fire Department since the department was incorpo-
rated in 1998; he currently holds the position of Board President; and
WHEREAS, In addition, John Fall, Sr. has been a long-time member of
the New York State Association of Fire Chiefs, a member of FASNY (Fire-
men's Association of the State of New York) and the Onondaga County
Volunteer Firemen's Association; and
WHEREAS, In 1981, John Fall, Sr. received the Kish Kurtz Award for his
outstanding service, dedication, advice, and loyal support to the Solvay
Volunteer Fire Department; and
WHEREAS, John Fall, Sr., a lifetime resident of Solvay, New York,
graduated from Solvay High School in 1960, and then from Powelson School
of Business; he started his professional career at General Electric and
retired from Crucible as production planning supervisor; and
WHEREAS, Continuing his commitment to public service, John Fall, Sr.
also has served as a trustee for the Village of Solvay for about the
past two decades; and
WHEREAS, Volunteer firefighters, such as John Fall, Sr., not only
provide the critical service of fire protection and prevention, but they
also engage in other activities of great benefit and importance to the
communities they serve; and
WHEREAS, Fire protection requires special dedication, a strong desire
to help others, and a tireless sense of community in order to sacrifice
time with family and friends to always be ready to respond to the call;
now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
hereby recognize and honor John Fall, Sr., as he marks 50 years of dedi-
cated service with the Solvay Volunteer Fire Department; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Firefighter John Fall, Sr.
