LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring John Ryan upon the occasion of his
designation as recipient of the 2014 Hibernian of the Year Award by the
Ancient Order of Hibernians Division Four

WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to pay tribute to
those individuals of true purpose and worthy accomplishment who work
diligently to preserve and celebrate their rich cultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor John
Ryan upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of the 2014
Hibernian of the Year Award by the Ancient Order of Hibernians Division
Four, to be celebrated at its 80th Annual Grand Marshal's Ball on
Friday, March 7, 2014, at the Crescent Club in Centerport, New York; and
WHEREAS, A great community is only as great as those persons and
organizations that provide exemplary service, whether through partic-
ipation in voluntary programs, through unique personal achievement in
their profession or other endeavors, or simply through a lifetime of
good citizenship; and
WHEREAS, The Ancient Order of Hibernians (AOH) is a Catholic, Irish
American Fraternal organization founded on May 4, 1836, in New York
City; active across the United States, its mission is to foster and
preserve Irish culture, while standing up for issues affecting the Irish
community; and
WHEREAS, John Ryan has been an upstanding member of the Ancient Order
of Hibernians for many years and has held numerous titles within the
organization; he is the former President of the Division Four branch and
former Vice-President of the Suffolk County Chapter; and
WHEREAS, John Ryan has been called upon to contribute his time and
talents to countless civic and charitable endeavors and has always given
of himself unstintingly; he currently runs food drives within the
Ancient Order of Hibernians; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his community service, a
period of constructive involvement, John Ryan has stood constant in
dignity, good grace and humor; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which John Ryan has displayed throughout
his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor John Ryan upon the occasion of his designation as the 2014 Ancient
Order of Hibernian Division Four Hibernian of the Year; and be it
further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to John Ryan.
