LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Gerald D. Jennings upon the occasion of
his designation as recipient of The Envoy Salute by the Albany-Colonie
Regional Chamber of Commerce

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those individ-
uals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the community and its
citizenry; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body seeks to acknowledge those individuals
whose professional lives and civic endeavors serve to enhance the stat-
ure of the State of New York; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing tradition, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Gerald D. Jennings upon the occasion of his designation as recipient of
The Envoy Salute by the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of Commerce, to
be celebrated at its 114th Annual Dinner on Thursday, March 6, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Gerald D. Jennings, elected the 74th Mayor of the City of
Albany in 1993, is being honored for his vision, leadership, and impact
on the economic vitality of the region; he retired from this esteemed
position after serving five consecutive terms, on December 31, 2013; and
WHEREAS, Under the luminous direction of Gerald D. Jennings, the City
of Albany has experienced a bona fide renewal in both downtown and
historic neighborhoods, and has witnessed an unprecedented reduction in
crime, as well as a meaningful increase in the quality of life; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Gerald D. Jennings was instrumental in Albany,
New York being designated An All-American City by the National Civil
League in June of 2009; and
WHEREAS, Throughout his tenure, Gerald D. Jennings successfully estab-
lished collaborative partnerships with New York State, the business
community, educational institutions, and non-profit organizations,
resulting in numerous development projects, most notably, the state-of-
the-art research and development center at Albany NanoTech; and
WHEREAS, Gerald D. Jennings has received countless awards and acco-
lades for his progressive leadership, and has been recognized Nationally
for his innovative and effective government by the United States Confer-
ence of Mayors and The National Council for Urban Development; and
WHEREAS, Throughout the entire period of his professional and communi-
ty service, a period of constructive involvement, Gerald D. Jennings has
stood constant in dignity, good grace and humor, and has earned the
respect and admiration of his colleagues, family and friends; and
WHEREAS, Rare indeed is the impressive dedication shown by an individ-
ual for the benefit of others which Gerald D. Jennings has displayed
throughout his life; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberation to
honor Gerald D. Jennings upon the occasion of his designation as recipi-
ent of The Envoy Salute by the Albany-Colonie Regional Chamber of
Commerce; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Gerald D. Jennings.
