LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commending Jennifer VanAlphen upon the occasion
of her designation as recipient of the Outstanding 4-H Member Award by
the Columbia County Agricultural Society and the 4-H

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to act, in accord with
its long-standing traditions, honoring the youth of today, and leaders
of tomorrow, whose character and achievements best exemplify the ideals
and values cherished by this great State and Nation; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commend
Jennifer VanAlphen upon the occasion of her designation as recipient of
the Outstanding 4-H Member Award by the Columbia County Agricultural
Society and the 4-H; and
WHEREAS, The 4-H Club is the nation's largest youth development and
empowerment organization, reaching more than seven million young people
in urban neighborhoods, suburban schoolyards and rural farming communi-
ties; fueled by a university-backed curriculum, 4-H'ers engage in hands-
on learning activities in the areas of science, healthy living, and food
security; and
WHEREAS, The New York State 4-H seeks to foster the development of
leadership ability, life skills, and good citizenship in its young men
and women; it is the only youth development program directly connected
to technological advances and the latest research at Cornell University;
and
WHEREAS, Jennifer VanAlphen, the daughter of Richard and Jill VanAl-
phen, has been a member of the Kinder Farm Saddle 4-H Club for five
years, and has been awarded for her outstanding community service activ-
ities, leadership abilities, and completion of all 4-H project goals;
and
WHEREAS, This exceptional young woman has served as a junior leader,
teaching horseback riding safety and other topics to the Cloverbuds
youth group; she has also served ably in the Animal Ambassador Program,
preparing lesson plans and speaking at the Taconic Hills Afterschool
Program; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer VanAlphen is a member of the horse bowl and hippolo-
gy teams and notably, rescued her own horse, nursing it back to health
while conducting research with veterinarians and specialists; and
WHEREAS, Jennifer VanAlphen is a credit to her family, school, commu-
nity, and her State and Nation, and it is certain that her future will
be filled with accomplishments of equal importance; and
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body that when individ-
uals of such noble aims and accomplishments are brought to our atten-
tion, they should be celebrated and recognized by all the citizens of
this great Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Jennifer VanAlphen upon the occasion of her designation as recipi-
ent of the Outstanding 4-H Member Award by the Columbia County Agricul-
tural Society and the 4-H; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Jennifer VanAlphen.
