LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 40th Anniversary of Meals on
Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland, Inc.
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize that the
quality and character of life in the communities across New York State
are reflective of the concerned and dedicated efforts of those organiza-
tions and individuals who would devote themselves to the welfare of the
community and its citizenry; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 40th Anniversary of Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of
Rockland, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, This March, Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland
will be participating in the annual national March for Meals campaign, a
month-long event sponsored by the Meals on Wheels Association of Ameri-
ca, designed to generate public awareness about senior hunger and to
celebrate the invaluable services provided by Senior Nutrition Programs
across the country; this effort includes Community Champions Week, March
17-21, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland has served
the interests of the people of the Empire State by providing sustenance
and support to seniors in need for 40 years; and
WHEREAS, In 1974 a group of dedicated volunteers associated with the
National Council of Jewish Women started a meal delivery program for the
homebound out of the basement of founder and former Executive Rochelle
Berger's home; and
WHEREAS, Four decades later, that program has evolved into Meals on
Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland, Inc., and today it offers
seniors much more than a meal; and
WHEREAS, Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland is a compre-
hensive not-for-profit agency with a staff of more than 80 employees,
and over 600 volunteers; it has delivered more than eight million meals
since its inception; and
WHEREAS, This worthy organization administers five senior centers, the
Bobbi Lewis Adult Day Program, a central commissary, the Adult Learning
Center, and an all-senior theatrical troupe known as The Music Makers;
it is also in the process of establishing a Pet Pantry for seniors who
cannot afford to feed their beloved pets; and
WHEREAS, This occasion presents an opportunity for this Legislative
Body to recognize and pay tribute to Meals on Wheels Programs & Services
of Rockland, Inc., in celebration of its growth and the tremendous
service it provides; and
WHEREAS, In so effectively carrying out its mission, Meals on Wheels
Programs & Services of Rockland, Inc. has demonstrated the inestimable
value of improving the quality of life for New York State's aging resi-
dents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Meals on Wheels Programs & Services
of Rockland, Inc., and to wish it continued success; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Meals on Wheels Programs & Services of Rockland, Inc.
