LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scout
Troop 7, Port Washington, New York, to be celebrated March 1, 2014
WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to honor the youth of
today, and leaders of tomorrow, whose character and achievements exem-
plify the ideals and values cherished by this great State and Nation;
and
WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America (BSA) and its members are dedicated to
the development of character and leadership in the youth of this Nation;
and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to commem-
orate the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 7, Port Washington, New
York, to be celebrated at a gala dinner on Saturday, March 1, 2014, at
the Clubhouse at Harbor Links, Port Washington, New York; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America was incorporated on February 8, 1910,
and chartered by Congress in 1916, to provide an educational program for
boys and young adults to build character, to train in the responsibil-
ities of participating citizenship, and to develop personal fitness; and
WHEREAS, Since 1914, the young men of Boy Scout Troop 7 have been
helping the Port Washington community through many generations, through
good times and tough times, through war times and peace times; and
WHEREAS, With the intent of making Port Washington a better place for
all, Boy Scout Troop 7 has helped Port Washington in the Memorial Day
Parade, during Pride in Port, at the Landmark Theater, the Nassau Knolls
Cemetery, the Senior Center in Manorhaven, the Cow Neck Fair, the Sands
Point Rehabilitation Center, Schreiber and Guggenheim Schools, the
Science Museum, the VFW Hall, the Town of North Hempstead Animal Shel-
ter, and many other worthy organizations and causes; and
WHEREAS, Similarly, the Port Washington community has helped the boys
of Troop 7 grow into young citizens, understanding what it means to
grow, to learn, to work as a team, to lead and to give back; and
WHEREAS, Only four percent of Boy Scouts nationwide achieve the
distinguished rank of Eagle Scout; Boy Scout Troop 7 is justly proud to
have produced over 20 Eagle Scouts in the past 10 years; and
WHEREAS, Boy Scouts of America has manifestly contributed to the pres-
ervation of those treasured ideals of compassion, honor, preparedness
and concern for others which exemplify our American Heritage; now,
therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 100th Anniversary of Boy Scout Troop 7, Port Washington,
New York, to be celebrated March 1, 2014; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Boy Scout Troop 7, Port Washington, New York.
