LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION commemorating the 175th Anniversary of Denton
Presbyterian Church of New Hampton, New York

WHEREAS, Religious institutions, and the many spiritual, social and
educational benefits they confer, play a vital role in the development
of the moral fabric of a responsible citizenry; and
WHEREAS, It is the tradition of this State and this Nation to pay
tribute to those institutions and individuals who have contributed to
the ethical and spiritual values of their communities; and
WHEREAS, This Legislative Body takes pleasure in commemorating the
175th Anniversary of Denton Presbyterian Church of New Hampton, New
York; highlighting the theme: "Historically Faithful in the Reformed
Tradition," the church will mark this most impressive milestone with
several events, beginning with a special evening of Dinner, Program, and
Square Dancing on Saturday, March 22, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Other festivities to honor the 175th Anniversary of Denton
Presbyterian Church include a 175th Anniversary Weekend Celebration,
August 29-31, 2014; this three-day event consists of: an Opening Cele-
bration Program and Dessert on Friday, August 29, 2014; a Day in the
Park on Saturday, August 30, 2014, that will feature a 5K
run/walk/stretch and/or dance, a barbecue luncheon, music by Christian
bands and singing; and, on Sunday, August 31, 2014, a special Morning
Service and Luncheon; and
WHEREAS, Denton Presbyterian Church of New Hampton, New York, is
located in the Town of Wawayanda; this venerable religious institution
was accepted into Presbytery on March 26, 1839; and
WHEREAS, 175 years later, Denton Presbyterian Church proudly has a
congregation of about 100 active members, counting many generations of
families among its parishioners; and
WHEREAS, The culturally diverse congregation of Denton Presbyterian
Church is a testament to family and friendship rooted in shared Chris-
tian love, prayer, song and worship; and
WHEREAS, In addition to its services that use blended and traditional
styles of worship and music, Denton Presbyterian Church also has a Food
Bank mission, which serves approximately 200 families each month; it
also provides primary support to its missionary for over 40 years in
Southeast Asia, as well as support to other local and international
missions; and
WHEREAS, Denton Presbyterian Church stands on the threshold of tomor-
row, prepared to meet the challenges of the coming decades while retain-
ing that spiritual resolve which characterizes its past; and
WHEREAS, It is the custom of this Legislative Body to take note of
enduring religious institutions and to bring such institutions to the
attention of the people of this Empire State; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
commemorate the 175th Anniversary of Denton Presbyterian Church of New
Hampton, New York, fully confident that this commemoration reflects the
belief in those values which enhance the dignity and purpose of life;
and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Denton Presbyterian Church of New Hampton, New York.
