LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION congratulating Kayla Cappuzzo upon the occasion
of her being named the Gatorade New York State Girls Soccer Player of
the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to recognize and pay
tribute to those young people within the State of New York who, by
achieving outstanding success in athletic competition, have inspired and
brought pride to their school and community; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to congratu-
late Kayla Cappuzzo of Merrick, New York, upon the occasion of being
named the 2013-14 Gatorade New York State Girls Soccer Player of the
Year, by the Gatorade Company in collaboration with USA TODAY High
School Sports; and
WHEREAS, In its 29th year, the Gatorade Youth Awards Program selects
one high school winner from each of the 50 states and District of Colum-
bia in a vast array of sports; this illustrious award recognizes not
only outstanding athletic excellence, but also high standards of academ-
ic achievement and character both on and off the field; and
WHEREAS, A senior at Sanford H. Calhoun High School, Kayla Cappuzzo is
an exemplary member of the Bellmore-Merrick community; she has repres-
ented her school well both on and off the field; and
WHEREAS, This talented and hard-working student athlete led her team
to the Nassau County Finals, scoring seven goals and passing for nine
assists during the season; she has been chosen as New York State Class
AA Co-Player of the Year and is an All-American selection by the
National Soccer Coaches Association of America; furthermore, she is also
a member of the U.S. Soccer Federation U-18 Women's National Team; and
WHEREAS, Active in giving back to her community, Kayla Cappuzzo is a
member of Students Against Destructive Decisions, and has volunteered on
behalf of food drives, the U.S. Marine Corps Toys for Tots program and
the Little Angel Fund; and
WHEREAS, Kayla Cappuzzo has distinguished herself academically by
maintaining an A average in her studies and will be playing Division I
Soccer while attending Northeastern University in the fall; and
WHEREAS, Kayla Cappuzzo has been given this exceptional award for her
impact and versatility on and off the soccer field, and for her
outstanding leadership, sportsmanship, athletic excellence, academic
achievement, and exemplary character; and
WHEREAS, Poised eagerly with enthusiasm and determined purpose, this
scholar now stands honorably, with just pride in her accomplishments and
in eager anticipation of future challenges, understanding and appreciat-
ing the caring counsel and support provided by her teachers, coaches and
parents; now, therefore, be it
RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
congratulate Kayla Cappuzzo upon the occasion of being named the Gato-
rade New York State Girls Soccer Player of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Kayla Cappuzzo.
