LEGISLATIVE RESOLUTION honoring Philip Jon Rudolph upon the occasion of
being named a 2013 National Coach of the Year

WHEREAS, It is the sense of this Legislative Body to commend those nota-
ble educators and athletic coaches within our midst who serve the youth
of this great Empire State and who have distinguished themselves and
their schools through their exemplary athletic achievements and their
outstanding commitment to education; and
WHEREAS, Attendant to such concern, and in full accord with its long-
standing traditions, this Legislative Body is justly proud to honor
Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Tennis Team coach Philip Jon Rudolph
for being named a 2013 National Coach of the Year by the National Feder-
ation of State High School Associations; Coach Philip Rudolph is one of
just 21 high school coaches nationwide to receive this honor for the
2012-2013 school year; and
WHEREAS, The National Federation of State High School Associations, a
national leadership organization for high school sports and performing
arts, has been recognizing coaches through an awards program since 1982;
awards are presented to coaches who demonstrate high standards for
sportsmanship and ethical conduct; and
WHEREAS, Coach Philip Rudolph joined the Fayetteville-Manlius School
District in 1983 as a high school social studies teacher, a position he
currently still holds; in 1984, he took over the Fayetteville-Manlius
girls tennis program; and
WHEREAS, Coach Philip Rudolph, who has now served as the coach of the
Fayetteville-Manlius Girls Varsity Tennis team for nearly 30 years, has
attained an impressive overall career record that includes 420 wins, 26
conference championships, 27 team district championships, and 328
consecutive match wins - a national record for high school tennis; and
WHEREAS, In addition, Coach Philip Rudolph has coached the Fayette-
ville-Manlius Freshmen Boys Lacrosse team for 27 years; he also has
coached boys basketball; and
WHEREAS, As well as coaching, Coach Philip Rudolph has participated in
or helped organize numerous charitable events to benefit his school and
community, such as Fay-Man Race of Champions, Bryn Place Foundation
Manlius Mile, Stick it to Cancer, Dance Marathon for Camp Good Days, and
the All Sports Booster Club Silent Auction; he has remained actively
involved in the Syracuse University Project Advanced Program, the
Fayetteville-Manlius Geography Bee and the Fayetteville-Manlius Speech
and Debate Club; and
WHEREAS, During his tenure, Coach Philip Rudolph has received several
accolades for his coaching excellence; he was named a United States
Tennis Association "High School Coach of the Year" received the Syracuse
Sports Corporation Believe to Achieve Award and was recognized by the
State and National Federations as a coach with the longest winning
streak in high school tennis; and
WHEREAS, Most recently, Coach Philip Rudolph received Gold Standard
certification from the National Board of Professional Teaching Standards
and was honored at a ceremony at Arlington High School in Dutchess Coun-
ty on January 29, 2014; and
WHEREAS, Coach Philip Rudolph's positive attitude, selfless commit-
ment, goal-oriented and balanced approach to instruction, on top of his
genuine concern for his students have contributed to his enduring
success as a coach and mentor in the Fayetteville-Manlius School
District, earning him the just respect of his community and the State of
New York; now, therefore, be it

RESOLVED, That this Legislative Body pause in its deliberations to
honor Coach Philip Jon Rudolph upon the occasion of being named a 2013
National Coach of the Year; and be it further
RESOLVED, That a copy of this Resolution, suitably engrossed, be tran-
smitted to Coach Philip Jon Rudolph.
